Hello everyone,
This is my first post here and you all seem very friendly so I thought I'd ask a question. I've scoured the net today looking for an online photography course and this, by far, looks to be the best. My only problem is I do not live in a city, I live on a cattle ranch. Will I need to take pictures of huge buildings, city traffic, Starbucks ;)?... if you want a picture of a cow, horse, or chickens I'm good to go lol but as for the other things I don't even have them near me. Will this be a problem?

Living in a city isn't a requirement for taking the course. And I'm sure if you contacted the instructor and expressed your concern, they would have a solution for you. I'm sure this isn't the first time this questions been asked.
Just click on the "contact us" at the top left of any page, and ask them how they handle this.
Oh and welcome to the forum. Good luck with the course.

Kansas -
You don't necessarily need to live in a city to take great shots. By taking this course, you'll be encouraged to leave your comfort zone and have the opportunity to be more creative. I think if you just stop, think and really look around, you'll be able to get some great shots.

Thank you Joseph and Debbie for your replies.
Joseph I will contact the instructor and speak to him/her.
Debbie, I live in a beautiful area and there are many shots of wonderful scenes, animals, etc., I also have a small studio set up in my home for portraits and enjoy taking pictures of people. My main concern is taking the course and getting an assignment that requires me to take a shot of something that I don't have access to, such as "take a shot of a busy city street." The nearest city to me is a one-way two hour drive and it would be unlikely I would be able to complete the assignment.

Kansas, Think of it this way, this may give you the opportunity to have an excuse to take a day trip and see what you can get.
One thing this course does it gets you out in the field to take shots you might not get otherwise. That's why the assignments are so diverse. When doing my assignments I found myself traveling an hour or two from the home base. I sometimes made it a day trip with the family and such.

That sounds like fun, unfortunately trips for me off the ranch are few and far between, but since this is a work at your own pace course it might take me awhile but I would eventually get the shot :)
Even if I couldn't fulfill all the requirements it still looks like I will learn a lot so I'm pretty tempted to sign up. I've sent an email off to the instructors and am waiting to hear back.
Thanks for the input :D

Kansas, I know where you're coming from. Our farm is 2 hours away from the nearest city as well. I haven't ran into anything in the course yet that requires travelling to the city. While it would get me out of my "zone" so to speak if I had to, it's instead got me to look at my surroundings in different ways. Architecture doesn't necessarily have to be manmade for example. Sometimes we might even show other's how a subject can be interpreted (which I love to do)
I remember handing in the leading lines assignment and none of my planned photo's had come up with anything good. Instead I ended up submitting a head shot of a calf saying the hair lead your eyes to the little hair swirl on her forehead lol I bet my instructor had never thought along those lines before :D
I guess what I'm saying is don't let words hold you back. Everything is open to your interpretation. There's nothing in the course that I've run into saying City Shots Only! so I think it would be great to have another country person on here to help represent our side of the world :D
Geez that got longer winded than I thought...

Hi Angie,
Thanks for your post! I was waiting for a response from the instructor but no luck today and your post has made my decision. I will sign up on Monday when my hubby heads back to camp :)
PS I checked out your blog and you take beautiful pictures!

Lillooet is about 3.5 hours north of Vancouver in the Interior. I live about half way between Lillooet and Lytton. If you want to see the ranch I live on you can check out my blog at http://kansasa.blogspot.com I've been taking quite a few pics of the ranch lately :)
