Good morning,
I sent these two photos in for assignment 5 on Sunday and just got a message back from Greg that he cannot see the EXIF data. I open both photos in Adobe Bridge or ACDSee and can see the data no problem. I'm not sure what the problem is?? Can anyone see the EXIF data on their computer?

Thanks Joseph for checking. I'm not sure what to do now, anyone else had this problem? Is the EXIF stripped off when I upload just for the assignment??

I highly dought that the info is stripped just for the assignments. In fact I'm sure like you found out, the instructor can and does use this info to asses the images.

In fact to double check, go back into where you uploaded the images in the assignments, and download them back into your computer and check for the info.

Are they waiting for this info to look at your assignments? I would PM the instructor and ask for help on this.

I downloaded the files as you suggested and can see the data. I'm just wondering if when the instructor downloads it into his computer for some unknown reason the data is stripped. I've sent a message but it seems to take 2 to 3 days to get a reply and I don't want to start the new assignment until I finish with the previous one. I don't know what to to now. I guess I have no choice but to wait until I hear back.
Yes Greg is wanting the info to grade the assignment.

So certainly the info is there and on the instructors end. You did all you could for now just have to wait. But if there is a problem on his end, then copy the image info that he needs to a document, like Word, and add it to the uploads for that assignment just like you did the images so that he can get this info sooner if there is a problem. That's the only other thing I can think of to speed up the process for you.

Hope this helps.

I shouldn't be so impatient but I think it's born into me lol. I do have a text document ready to go if he asked for it but I'm hoping we get this figured out so I don't have to do it for each assignment/picture. Funny thing is with the first assignment there was a bit of a problem too. One picture was fine nothing wrong, EXIF was missing on another picture (now that I check it's there), and on another the instructor thought I had used full auto mode where in fact I only shoot RAW and the picture was shot using Tv priority... gremlins? lol.
Thanks for all your help Joseph :)

For confirmation, I also saw the EXIF data, but not from the viewer that I first see when clicking on the links above. I had to download that picture locally, then I was able to access EXIF data on the pics.

Thanks Jerry, I didn't know there was a way to view EXIF from the viewer that comes up? I thought one only sees the picture. I'm still waiting on a response from the instructor as to what to do. I'll keep you all updated.

Jerry, where do you bring up the EXIF from the viewer? I can't find it anywhere, or is it shown within a photo page if avalible?

Thanks

If you guys re-read the post, I mention that I cannot access the EXIF using my EXIF info displayer (KUSO EXIF), while the picture viewer shows the photo, I had to save the picture to my desktop, view it locally and then the EXIF info from the photo was visible.

This may be why the instructor was having issues reading the EXIF.

Ya I understand EXIF can't be seen for the image in question, but given one that can be seen, where do you see it in the viewer? Or are you talking about some plug-in or other that allows you to see EXIF from within PP. I'm confused :)

So Jerry do you think this is what the instructor is trying to do, view the EXIF without downloading the photo? And do you know why my photos can't be viewed unless downloaded locally? I take all my pics in RAW, post process in PS, and then "save for web & device" in PS attaching all metadata. I can't use "save as" in PS because jpg isn't available and TIFF files are too large for me to upload (I'm on a satellite internet connection).

I don't know about some of this, and have never "saved for web" but have heard that when you do save for the web, EXIF data is stripped. I don't know if this is the case in every editing application though. What I would do is go to help in your editing application, do a search on saving for web or similar, and do some reading as to what that means to that application. It should tell you exactly what it is doing to that image for that process.

And also, if you aren't getting answers fast enough, PM Peter himself and ask a few questions. He's usually reall fast at getting back to you.

Sorry, I am not being very clear today.

I use KUSO viewer, a plug-on for IE and when I right click any image in a browser window, I can usually get the EXIF. In the case of the pic here, right-clicking and asking for the EXIF from KUSI did not let me see it, but when I right clicked the pic, saved it locally, viewed it and then right-clicked and asked KUSO to show me the EXIF, then it could.

If in PS CS, you save for web, you can strip the EXIF, but in this case, it obviously was not stripped as I can see it.

For example, in the first pic, I see (in part, as there is a LOT more):

Make: Canon
Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL XSi
ImageSize: 480x720
CreateDate: 2009:02:22 13:16:55.03-08:00
ExposureTime: 1/400"
Aperture: F5.6
MaxAperture: F5.7
ExposureProgram: Aperture-priority AE
MeteringMode: Multi-segment
ISO: 200
WhiteBalance: Auto
FocalLength: 250.0 mm

... so the EXIF is there, it's just that the viewer that displays that pictures blocks the EXIF and you cannot see them until you download or get just that pitcure in a screen by itself.

Just to add this: You can see EXIF Data from within PP. I think it's new cause I don't remember seeing it before. It looks like to view EXIF the image has to be in a gallery and can't be just added to a thread. Not sure about this though.

Bring up an image, go to Photo Option right of the photo, click and choose the camera icon, "Show EXIF Data", and walla. Can someone tell me if that was there before and I missed it, or is this part of the upgrade?

I heard from Greg, my instructor. He's using Fastone image viewer and can see some or none of the EXIF, but he says in PS CS4 he can see it all. He's never run into this problem with any other photos before so I don't know what I'm doing that's so different. In PS CS4 when you "save for web & devices" I also have chosen the option to attach "all metadata" because the other options wouldn't work for this course. I'm glad we got this worked out and I want to thank both of you, Joseph and Jerry, for helping me :)
