Thought I'd post a link to my own site as a DIY showcase or with the hope to encourage others. It has been designed in most part (used a template)and maintained by me, all photos as is the small part time business all done by me. That's not new or particularly impressive in itself but I'm not trying to cloat.

I have had no formal training what so ever for all those I have read on the forums that say they aren't up to the task or don't imagine they ever will be, everything I know to date is from self study. I broke my wrist a few years ago making me fold my catering business (was chef by trade). While laid up in a cast I taught myself how to use the computer and some of the software available. Bought a camera, read alot, shot alot and started from there. Heard you have a camera, can you take some photos of my family? Heard you take photos could you shoot some at a friends wedding? Heard you photograph weddings, could you do mine? Viola, an idea, a small outlay, some courage and passion and a small business is born.

Four years now and still part time I did 30 weddings last summer and have 28 this summer.Still not unusual, I do absolutely no advertising. I use free online spots where I find them, rely on my key words in the website to work while people google and word of mouth has been incredible in just a few short years. Listed on a few venues sites as a prefered photographer and friends of friends, bridesmaids from previous weddings and so and so on.

So don't believe for a minute you aren't in a position to change careers or have a concerted effort at making a living, even part time.I hope this serves to encourage.

Still in hospitality too I hope to make my passion full time by the end of this year hence my enrolement in a course with proud photography to instill more confidence and fill in what I know to be missing in knowledge, work practices, the photographs themselves and to admit to some formal training.Keep reading, use the internet, source DVD turorials etc and keep shooting (photos)!

Just thought I'd share. http://www.imagesafe.co.nz
