Friday I took this picture, 55-200 VR Nikkor Lens. Other friends suddgested shooting down the tracks but that angle the mountains were less interesting. Another friend saw something not as sharp as he would like it. I would like other criticism, and how to improve it next time. I did use a tripod, don't have a cable release yet. I just thought I don't know If I turned off VR, maybe that was it what do you think. Jorgy

Hi Jorgy,
I will leave it to the more senior PP members to answer the difficult questions on capturing the photo.
I have just done a quick edit of your shot to try to make some improvements in my opinion.
I added: touch of brightness, contrast, cropped a little, and a hint more colour.
Your original is first, then my edited copy.

I really like the original. Maybe it's just my moniter bu I don't see any problems with the sharpness. I like the look and the lighting. A tighter crop to eliminate some of the grass in the bottom left corner might e nice and will help bring in the train car.
I love the shot though. Reminds me of a few posters I've seen around.

I really like this image...the old rail cars and the silo's blend so nicely with the mountains. It's too bad the electric poles were in it but that doesn't take away from the image. You used the rails to give an angle to the photo but kept the mountains in full view. I think you did good!

Fantastic shot! I bet someone would hang this as a print somewhere.

I like this shot too. I think it is a bit underexposed. nothing says train like a telephone pole parrelling it, so I like the poles in there. It does seem to be a bit soft, but I think that's ok. In fact softening it up a little more with a sepia tone might look cool too.
the only distracting thing that pops out to me it how noisy the sky and mountains are. You don't notice the noise so much in the rest of the image. Nice shot.

here is another version, it is difficult to work with as it is pixilated in PS

I easily agree with those who enjoy this photo! I love the feel and theme of this image! :^)
