few questions for course takers [Archive]

I'm about to sign up to take a course. I've read through other people's feedback, but I'm still looking for some answers.

1)What was the most valuable thing you learned(maybe learning)? Either conceptually or specifically?

2)How long did it take you to get through the course?

3)What is the format of the material? Is it all computer screen reading? Videos?

4)What did you enjoy most about the course?

1. As simple as it might sound, how to plan and pack for a shoot was something I took away from the course. This is because the course gets you out there shooting.

2. A person that is determined with the time could get this done in a few weeks. Most are going to take months however. Most that I talk to have month long stretches where they don't do anything with the course because of life getting in the way, or they aren't happy with an assignment and it takes them a long stretch to get something they really like. Took me almost a year to complete. I would get these good ideas for assinments, and it would take me a while to put it into practice. The longest one was "City at night." I live in the Minneapolis area so I have a good city to photography, but took a long time to get the time, energy, pick a location, plus it took me 2-3 shoots to get something I was happy with. One hint: When turning in assignments don't settle. Take your time and turn in work that you are thrilled with and not just satisfied with.

3. Lots of reading, quizes at the end or beginning of each section, and hands on assignments. No videos that I remember.

4. The one on one time with the camera. Because I spent a lot of time shooting I really know my way around my camera. It made me read the manual over and over so I could make fast settings when I needed to. It's a great course for beginners. Good luck.
