View Full Version : Process multiple files freezes in PS Elements 6?
Every time I go to process multiple files photoshop elements 6 it freezes on the first photo and then becomes unresponsive, When I look at the task manager data in processes photoshop is using 460,000k for memory which on my system is pretty much pegged. Ive read clearing the cache can help but I cant figure out how to do it. Processing multiples files was very speedy on this computer now it wont do it at all. I'm just resizing large photos to smaller ones. Has anyone been down this road before?

I haven't, but I know in PS CS3 you can set how much memory the program uses. If E6 can do this you might lower this number so you don't get the freeze. Check you program preferences or options. You might also look in E6 help use "memory" as the keyword and see what it comes up with. Getting more mem may also help.

Also here is a link that might help; http://www.flickr.com/groups/racedog/discuss/72157606237879985/
If not do a internet search on "memory usage in elements 6." there are lots of link there that might help.

Have you run the defrag utility in windows recently, this might help. There is also a small program I use which is a free download " CC Cleaner " , this cleans out the cache etc and is usefull., it can also reduce the cookies in the system which you may or may not want to do(if you try this one, read the help first so that you know which parts to use and what they do etc).

How much memory do you have installed? CS2 takes tons of memory and I suspect that PSE does too. I think the best thing you can do when processing images, is max out your memory. It's to cheap to not too. Check out crucial. com....they will even check your computer and tell you want you can add and how much.

Yes I just got more memory at the same link Mary provided. They are good. Do make sure if you do go there you plug in your computer spects to check how much memory your computer can utilize. Otherwise you might buy more mem than you computer can use and waste money. Mem is cheap these days.
Last time I ran a defragment was 3 days ago. Ive searched the web for an hour, seems there were some options to reset the default settings on older versions of PSE, but I could not find one single issue like mine documented, at least not tonight. The thing that puzzles me is that on My Vista based laptop the memory is at 460k, on my XP computer at work while multiple file process is running it is only using 60k and working slow but perfectly, also my work computer has half the ram, big difference. Now I know the way that XP and Vista use memory is completely different so that probably not a great comparison. Id like to thank everybody for the help, and yes my 1 gig ram is due for a bump. but you see this laptop used to run process multiple file beautifully and fast to, now it cant even resize the first photo in a file with out freezing. i guess I was just hoping I was missing something obvious. I can always remove and reinstall the PSE6 but not tonight I've frustrated myself enough for one day.

If you can't find an answer maybe it's time to reformat/restore your computer. It seems I do this to each of mine about every few year on average.
