I was just looking at a camera that someone was selling and within the description it said it had taken approx. 10000 shots, which got me thinking.

How many shots should a camera be able to take until it 'dies'? Or to re-phrase this question what is the life span of a camera?

All cameras are different for life span. The only life span criteria I ever hear of is shutter life. The cheaper DSLR's have around 50,000, where the most expensive have 200,000 or more.

But shutters can die anytime really, and some with an estimated 50,000 click life span can last way beyond 100,000. So it really is a flip of a coin. But most will replace or upgrade their camera long before it shows sings of failure.

When you get ready to take that one perfect shot and nothing happens. That's when your camera has reached its life span.

:) You gave me quite a chuckle, Debbie....the next time my camera won't take an exposure, I'll check to see if its dead or just that the batteries are...ROTFL....

According to a professional wedding photographer, she says she only gets about 3 years out of a camera body...the lenses last a lifetime.

I've seen good film cameras go 30 years plus with professionals using them daily. But with digital, most people will retire them within 4 or 5 years to up grade. Years ago most of the technology changes was with film and paper, good camera quality didn't change much. Now digital cameras are like computers, there's something newer and better coming out the day you buy a new one. I don't foresee many cameras dying because they reached the end of their life span, just replaced because technology left them behind.

Has anyone on here have one of there cameras die on them? Just from alot of use not droping it or anything like that. I see this asked alot. And everyone all ways say how long they should last but I have never seen anyone say they had one go out on them.
