Hi All,

Using a Nikon setup, What would you classify the perfect lenses collection to cover all major shot types.

Interested to see the different personal preferences and potential trends on which lenses models each person uses.

There really is no "perfect collection", however there are some more choice lenses out there for Nikon users.

They do call the 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200 as the "Holy Trinity" of lenses in the Nikon world, and I own 2 out of these three lenses, but my bag holds a couple more.

- Nikkor 70-200mm f/2.8G IF-ED VR
- Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8G IF-ED
- Nikon AF-S DX VR IF-ED 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6
- Nikkor 85mm D AF f/1.4 prime
- Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D prime
- Nikon 35mm f/2.8 AIS prime
- Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC HSM Ultra Wide Angle
- Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Macro
- Sigma 30mm EX DC f/1.4 HSM prime
- Sigma 105mm EX DG f/2.8 Macro prime
- Sigma 15mm f/2.8 EX DG Diagonal Fisheye

The perfect collection is the collection that meets your needs and gets you the shots you want. For some, it is one simple single lens... for others, they will not be happy until they have invested over $20,000 in lenses alone.

Thanks for the handy Info... I guess you answered my question. The "holy trinity" sounds like a very neat approach.

It depends on what you want to do. In Canada, that set of 3 lenses is going to cost you at least $6500-$7000, so be very sure that you focus your needs and get equipment based on needs, not the other way around.

I am a real newbie in here so please be gentle ......
I resisted the move to a DSLR for several years because I couldn't justify the cost and my Lumix FZ50 with 12x Optical zoom was giving me some good pics. I finally realised that the DSLR brings so much ...... well you all know that anyway.

I just bought a Nikon D60 and a 55-200 AF-S VR. Feels good so far. I do like macro work but couldn't afford a 1:1 so I settled for a Sigma 17-70 HSM (1:2.3) which is in the mail I hope. I figured I could crop with a 10MP file so I hope it will do what I want it to.

Investment so far is about $1000CAN
