I have been told that I have major clipping in the highlights and shadows and I need more composition.
But I'm not sure what all that means.

The dark spots needed some help.
With more time spent, could be better.

I must admit it does look better, what I want to know is how could I have created that pic without any tampering? i.e. straight from the camera shot.

Here is my go. And know that this is fast editing here. Many mistakes. But the main point is that I added to the right side of the image and cloned in extra info to give this shot more balance and better composition. I also changed the color of the sign so it doesn't take your eye away from the walkway.

There was nothing I could do to the house without cloning something else in entirely. I tried, but once that over exposed, you can't really bring it back. At least I can't.
