I'll take a stab, Dan...to me, you need to spot meter off the golf ball, that way you don't blow out the white on the top. It will underexpose the rest of the image but you can always mask the ball and then up the exposure for the rest of the image.

Then, you might want to take a golf lesson or two....:D

Dan, I played with this image a little, but there just aren't any adjustments that will bring back the blownout highlights on the ball that I see. There were some minor things that made the overall images look a little better. I ran it trough a paint daubs filter in PS and to give it a different look.
