Has anyone had any experience with the Canon 55-250 mm f/4-5.6 EF S IS Lens I have the canon 40d and was thinking about getting another lens ( my wife said it would be my fathers day present). But I wanted to see whats everyone had to say about it.
Thanks

I was tutoring a guy this Monday and he had this lens. Honestly, I was not very impressed with it. The price of this lens and the quality of the output denotes this lens as a low end lens. It is also very slow, being a F/4 to F/5.6 lens... irrespective of it it has IS or not, I would suggest you look at another lens.
Save a little longer, get something a little better, something with a constant F/2.8 aperture. Yes, it is more expensive, but your photography will thank you for it.

I have the lens and have no problems with it. But what i do find a pain with the lens is that if a subject isn't in decent focus to start with is that the lens doesn't seem to able to focus on the subject and you have manualy focus, but i do this with out switching to MF, i leave it in AF and just turn the focus ring a little.....
Here are a few samples from the lens...
