Check out this site for a possible alternative to purchasing a lens hood for your lens (or a temporary solution). You could make it out of black craft foam (???) for a better alternative to card stock!

That site has been around for years, and quite popular with the DIY crowd, however, the average price for a replacement lens hood (well for my lenses, at least), is around $12. For that, I get original factory quality lens hoods that do what I need them to do without caving in on windy days on me the moments I need them to be reliable the most.

Of course, I do understand that even $12 can be a concern for some people, so a $1 black foamcore cut to shape is a boon.
