Thought I'd post some of my first attempts! Been having a great time with my new lens.

The first set are of a grasshopper/cricket?? about 1 1/2 cm long. He posed for me for ages!

Another set of a bumble bee. A very greedy bee, covered in pollen!
I tried to frame both sets of pictures but wasn't sure which colours to use. Is this something that will come up in the course?

Great Denise...That grasshopper was very camoflauged on that leaf!

Denise, these are great. I knew you would do well with your new lens.
Your bees are completely different to ours. I think ours have bigger, rounder eyes.

How far away from the bee were you when you shot these?

Thanks for your comments Kaye. I had a really strange experience with this bee. I found him on the floor one afternoon and I honestly thought he was injured or dying as he was so motionless. I picked a flower and he climbed in and I decided to put them both on the table out of the dog's reach! I quickly grabbed my macro lens and started shooting. It was if he was in a trance! I gave him a few new flowers to delve into - last supper etc - and after about half hour, he just flew away.

Most of the time the end of the lens was about 5cm away - it didn't seem to bother him at all.

Thanks MJ. It was just one of those very lucky moments. I was looking at flowers at the time. It was only 1.5cm long so I'm glad the opportunity came up - my kids thought that I was bonkers. I did take quite a few shots!!

Beautiful, Denise. I especially like the bee on the white background. I think we form a more intimate contact with a photograph of a person or animal when we can look into the eyes. Very nice job. Is your lens in the 100-105mm range of macros?

Mmmm.......10 days! Does it show!! lol I'm learning new stuff on a daily basis. Just realized you can lock the mirror up to prevent camera shake.

Great photos, Denise. You are definitely ahead of the learning curve -I wasn't doing half that well after only 10 days of macro shooting.

I find I have to shoot insects early in the morning while it is still cool and they are still moving slowly. They sure do speed up later in the day!

Keep up the good work.
