Hiya,

After reading on here and a few other places about The Orton Effect I thought I would give it ago.

I have created a photoshop action and wondered if anyone would be interested in testing it? The reason it needs testing is I have limited photo's on this computer at the moment so cant test it properly.

I created this action in Photoshop CS4 Extended but I think it will work in earlier version as I don't think I have used anything that's not available to the earlier versions.

Post here your opinions and if you like you can show us your examples.

Here is a download link for the action:

If you need instructions how to install and use actions in to photoshop then post here or send me an pm and then I shall write some up for you.

I just made a quick and simple tutorial to show how to install and run an action in photoshop cs4.

I believe its the same process in all previous Photoshops (Not sure on elements as never used it).

Here is the url to the Youtube video:

There is no sound, sorry. Maybe I'll get brave enough to record my voice if I make more tutorials :) Although it would mean I can go in to greater detail if I do.

Hope it helps some of you.

HI Steve. Last night I checked your action and it worked out good. I didn't know it was possible to put in messages as the action played. I'm not a pro with actions so it doesn't surprise me I didn't know. I was on my laptop where the color and such is a little off so I will try again on my desktop when I have more time. But for what it's worth, the action played fine to it's completion. Well done. I may start using your OR action instead of mine as long as I like the results on my main computer. Thanks for taking the time to share it.

Hello Joseph,

Thanks for your feedback and I am glad you liked what you have seen so far.

Would be interesting to see some of your final images :)

Great. I will pull out a few images I haven't worked on and run it through my workflow and add you action and post when I have them done.

Ok Steve I played with your action more on a new image. It looks to me that your OA action and mine are very similar in it's outcome. Yours has the added feature of stopping during the action and making the adjustments, while mine doesn't. I set predetermined adjustments in the action, and adjust the layers after the action runs. I do like your better and plan on using it if you have no objections. Appreciate the work you did, thanks. Here is the image I worked on.

Ah that looks great Joseph.

You are more than welcome to use the action as you like.

My first action also cycled through on predetermined adjustments but in testing not all images needed the same amount of Blur and sharpness so thought best to make it ask for user input where needed.

Anyway, I shall leave the download link here for anyone that wants it.

Thanks for testing for me. :)

Okay - not sure exactly what the Orton Effect is, but I tried the action and I really like the result. I'll do some research to find out exactly what it is - but here is what I came up with. I'm posting the original as well.
