I'm looking into purchasing a Speedlite for my EOS Rebel XT. The built in flash on my body is broken and I'm not sure if a Speedlite would work with it or not? I just need a flash and am interested in more indoor shooting and possibly weddings in the future so I figured a speedlite would be a win/win.
Do speedlites still work with your camera body even if the built in flash is broken?
Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated. I'm not even sure how speedlites connect to your camera body.
Thank you!
Amber :)

I own a pair of canon's 580EX 2's one for both cameras, and they seem to be working fine. The 430 series is supposed to have a faster recycle time rate. And also, get yourself some sort of diffuser! i like this one myself and would recomend it to anyone http://store.garyfonginc.com/

I use the lightsphere myself , they now have the collaspable lightsphere. It is real neat and will fit in your camera bag nicely.

good luck,
