My first attempt at fog and as you can see...I've still got work to do! I can't seem to get the fog to be white without really blowing out the sun. I plan on making another trip back to this same spot on another foggy morning and trying again. Any and ALL advice is welcome always!

Hi Mary,
I like this image a lot! Something that seems to work well for me is to turn down the contrast, it seems to help with the fog. I think you done a very good job with the capture, just try turning back the contrast and see if it works for you.

I like it a lot! It's nice the way you've captured such a feeling of serenity with such simplicity. Great job! Thanks.

Mary, I think this is a fabulous shot. Sometimes we shoot things with one aim in mind, and come out with something else marvelous.
Your aim was the fog. The fog is there... and perhaps what Larry said about lowering the Contrast may be the trick. I'm not sure, as we don't get many fogs here, and I have never tried to photography one.

I just love the WHOLE scene, with the contrast of the blacks and the grays, etc, and the positioning of your subject.

I don't know much about "minimalist photography", which I presume you like, but perhaps this is a good example.. ?

Great shot!

Thanks, all, for the wonderful comments on my image. I've been so busy here lately that I haven't even had a chance to read the forum, let alone answer. We got 8 inches of snow the first week of peak season (for you that don't know big brown, this is our busiest time of the year!) and then we got another 8 inches on Christmas eve. Between the snow and stress, I developed a nasty case of shingles. Trust me....you don't want them!
I've not even been out with my camera cause its dark when I head for work and dark when I get home. I'm off a few days this week and hope to take advantage of it and the freshly fallen snow.

Thanks, all! I'll give the suggestions some attention and see if I can improve the image...and yes, Kaye, minimalism is my favorite choice for photos. I just love the simplicity.

Mary - I'm very behind in reading/responding to posts, but I like the feel of this as well.

I'm very sorry to hear about your case of shingles. Take care it doesn't get worse.

Thanks Deb....you can't be any further behind then I get...:(. I'm giving big brown 2 more years, and then I'm calling it quits. I'm sure the day will be here before I know it.
I need to go out and take another shot of this but I'm allergic to the cold.:D:D:D

I've got a dr. appointment this afternoon to get some medicine for it. So far, all I've seen is the chiropractor for it and using some cream for itch relief. He's the only Dr. that keeps late hours...

Mary - get the drugs TRUST ME ON THIS ONE!!!! If you don't get the meds, it may get worse and spread. Also, if shingles is not treated immediately, you may have symptoms for up to a year, even after starting treatment. We had a co-worker that developed a very bad case of shingles and since he didn't know what it was - didn't seek treatment right away. (Sorry for losing track).

No drugs....according to my doctor, they are only effective in the first 72 hours and since these hit during peak season, I couldn't get off work to go see him. He says they are healing nicely and since I don't have severe pain, he didn't recommend the pain pills cause they would make me too drowsy to drive. If the pain gets worse, I can call him and he will get me some. So far, the stuff my chiropractor gave me is working and even the doctor was impressed by what it had done so far. I just have to get over the nasty, nasty taste....like rotten prune juice with tobacco spit in it...

I've heard some horror stories about them here too. One man fought them for 4 years but wouldn't go to the doctor. He died from them. They completely covered his torso!

I will keep a close eye on mine. Thanks for the concern, Deb!

Mary,

Sorry to hear of your struggles ... stress also makes them worse, so (if you don't mind a little more advice!) try to minimize as much stress as possible. Good luck in the new year and hope to see a few more serene pictures like the one above.
