Hi all,
Check this out.

This is my brother's chin.
I used my Canon 55-250 set at 100mm and held my 50mm prime up to the end but reversed.
This was the result. Not bad huh?
Let me know what you think :)

Well, this is just damn crazy hu? Sp you are using the 55-250 at 100, and holding the 50 backwards on the end of the first lens? And hand held? That is crazy good focus for that setup. :) I'm assuming this is chin hair then. I can see the....what ever it is running down inside the hair. This is intriguing. How did you come up with that idea? How did you set up the focus with two lenses?
Yep, then just moved really close to him, haha.
Thought it was good, I shined a white light torch on him also though as being in door late in the evening light is poor in here.
But anyway, worked well. :)
Have you or anyone else had experience with extension tubes? Are they worth it as a cheap way to start macro. Obviously its no substitute for a dedicated macro lens.

Well Steve, I have a 1.4 extension and never really use it. For what I do, I need lots of light, and the extension tubes use about a stop or more for the 1.4. More for a 2.0 or bigger. I bought it for my 100-400L for wildlife, but since the lens itself need lots of light being 5.6 at 400mm, I'm at 8.0 with the TC. Plus the TC will not focus correctly unless you are at nothing smaller than 5.6.
Please read my first post on this thread. I edited it and asked a few more questions.
Here is the video I see that shows how to do it.

I am quite impressed with this. I shall play about today when it gets light and post my results.
P.S The mince pies was lovely. Yummy!
Hi Steve,
Sometimes it is not very nice to see things really close up before you eat them!! Sorry, just had to edit this as I realised it was part of the box and not the food!!
Your chin shot in engenious, and I also watched the video which was informative and easily understandable. (But I don't have the lenses).
No wonder us women get chin rash when we kiss men. And as Joseph said, not sure about the liquid in the hair either...
I just find macro so amazing that we learn and find out so much with macro photography.
Good thread Steve.
Haha, I am glad that wasn't the mince pie. I would never of eaten it :)
Its a shame more people including myself don't have macro lenses. I think a macro guessing game would be great. Although maybe it would work with cropped images.
I'll look in to it and see if we have a birth of a new game :)
As for the hair's I don't know what that is on the inside maybe its hollow hairs?
I agree, would love a macro game.
Guess it would only work with cropped images if the image is good qaulity and size to start, otherwise we will get shots all "pixelled out".
My little camera does not take bad macros, but can't wait to get better camera and lenses. (Then I will be lost for a while until I learn).
I will await your new game in time.
