Don't know if this fits in this category but it's pretty funky. I can't take credit for it as I saw it on another (shhhhh) photography site

This is super duper cool. I love it. Great images to do this with. Can I ask what the technique is?

Ok. lol, i will just cut and paste it. Hopefully the girl won't get mad. It is very cool. She said she learned it in a course she took. Very simple. It uses photoshop elements. I really need to learn how to utilize this program.
"Open" the image (very sharp images work the best)
"Crop" the image to a square (I use 4x4 to make card size, or cd cover size).
Go to "Filter",
"Distort",
"Polar Coordinates" and click the bottom button on the left; "Polar to Rectangular".
Click "Okay".
Go to "Image",
"Rotate",
"180",
Back to "Filter",
"Distort",
"Polar Coordinates" and click the top, left button; "Rectangular to Polar",
then "Okay" and you're done!

I played around with this affect a little and it is really cool. I made an action of it as to make it a one click process. If you want a more oval affect instead of a circle, just skip the first cropping step. Thanks for sharing this john. I'm interested in seeing what images this works well on.
Hi Johnny & Joseph & all,
Johnny, what you have done is really nice. (Just be careful about "borrowing" others shots though). It is good to play around with editing like this. This is how we learn. BUT, there are sometimes too many options like this, that we waste time, but I do like this one.
It is funny to come across this edit process, as a while back, when I set up my blog: www.flower-magic.blogspot.com I did the same sort of thing, as I liked it:
I put one on as my Header Photo to my flower blog. I will attach it (or you can check out my blog, but I think you have already done this from memory).
Some flowers work better than others. I think from my experience it is better if they are a roundish shape. This may apply to all objects/shots when using this process in order to look good.(You can adjust the amount or percentage of the affect also).
I hope you don't mind me attaching these in your thread....
This one is on my blog:

Just another that I tried a while ago:

Keep up the editing practice. BTW I did mine on CS2.

I LOVE this - and the timing is perfect for me as our next theme for photo club is "creative expression".

Hi Johnny,
As I had pre-done this "sort" of effect in my attachments to this post, they did not follow the same version as you submitted.
I did mine as follows - You should then get the same effect that I got outside the perimeter of the circle, oval, etc. (I don't really think you need to change size), and it is very simple. Takes 30 seconds to do this effect.
All I did was:
FILTER, DISTORT, POLAR COORDINATES - (Rectangular to Polar) 100% ... but you can adjust this % and try the affect if you like, but I think 100% closes the circle..?...
Please try one and post it here. Would love to see it.

Ok Joseph. How'd you do the second one. The one that looks like it has multi colored ribbon in it. That one is wild.

Joseph. The more I look at your fireworkz shot. The more it looks like an apple or a pumpkin :) If you look at it with you head tilted slightly to the right...The top is the stem and bottom is the ... I don't know what they call that part...The bottom I guess :S lol I really like this one the best. They are all fantastic though. Have you tried your Alien one yet???

Hi john, and thanks. The second one is a macro shot of a pile of coated multi-colored and striped paper clips. Crazy isn't it.

Hahaha, that is a crazy observation, but very true. It does look like a pumpkin. Great imagination john, and thanks for spending exta time on them. I did try it on my alien shot. I will have to post it for you tomorrow. It looks very snake like. :)

Joseph. I can't wait to see the alien. I would have never guessed paper clips for the other one. That's crazy. I still really really like the fireworks one. That could be a fourth of July post card for New York City "The Big Apple" :)

Your first one looks like an upside water drop. Dropping into a black vortex :)
