OK..inspired by the Smoke Art I saw on here and elsewhere on the net I got myself a SB900 flash and worked out how to use it off camera.

The first batch I took were awful...looked OK on LED but not on computer
Then messed about with all the settings not really knowing what I was doing (but with an emphasis on keeping ISO down to 200) and...bosh...these happened

I found the best way to do it was to have sb900 at the side and ALSO let the on camera flash fire at front

I'd love to get these better and will be practicing at it but would appreciate constructive criticism also

Here are the next 5 images.

Original post explained that I didn't know how I got the sharp images - now realise that it was when I let the on camera fire as well as the off camera

LOL Thanks MrDoug
I am quite pleased with them for my first proper attempt.
....BUT can't for the life of me replicate them
Maybe I'm too tired and everything will "click" tomorrow but I kind of think i did something with "Bracketing" without realising it...and cannot repeat it.

Oh well...it'll pass a few hours trying again, I guess, tomorrow

EDIT...now can replicate these at my leisure... :) :)

Very nice, Dougie! Part of the fun will be trying to recreate it. Thanks for sharing.
