Need Help with Shutter Speed and Apeture

Hey Everyone...

OK I'm stuck here, I can't get my head around the whole shutter speed and apeture... I thought I understood it, but when I went to take some pics this weekend they SUCKED... Can someone please Dummie Proof this majorly... I'm really frustrated now, I've re-read and looked online and even tried the virtual camera link I found but I just can't put my little feble mind around the practical aspect of it...:(
