I saw photographer shooting with an attachment to his camera... almost like a boot or sleeve. It was attached to the bottom and allowed him to shoot both horizontally and vertically; with the shutter bottons on either corner when the camera was turned 90 degrees. Am I making ANY sense at all?
If ya'll know what that device is... holler at me, OK?
:D

I am not sure about the sleeve aspect, but an item that places shutter buttons on the portrait mode would be a battery grip. Attaches at the bottom, lets one shoot vertically or horizontally with shutter button on the portrait aspect, as mentioned.
What kind of camera are you talking?

I shot a few photo's with a gentleman's Nikon D300. It had the battery grip you
described. I felt I had a TON more control holding the camera still... more girth to
it. Needless to say, I have to get one now. LOVED IT! Simple story, but that's the
content of it.

Go for it Doug. I never buy a camera without a grip. There are many benefits to it. If Nikon is like Canon, the grip holds 2 batteries, so you have 2x the battery life than without. Plus you have shutter control and other features on the grip for portrait shots. Grips for DSLR's are a great thing.

I thought so immediately upon picking up that gentleman's D300. Loved it!
