Adobe Photoshop Help?

Once i make my photo black and white, how can i bring only the reds back into the photo? my friend told me what to do yesterday but i forgot what he said.

Make a selection around whatever is red in the photo and then make the photo black and white. Everything except your red selection should be black and white.
