Since 1853 the Sweny Chemist has been on Westland Row, Dublin and although not a working chemist anymore it’s well worth a visit whenever you are in City.
Although they do sell some small items it’s run on a voluntary basis and they depend on the donations of visitors to help pay the rent, and you can even sign the visitors book.
It’s small and compact and has hardly been touched since it opened over 150 years ago. And the one claim to fame it boasts is that it is mentioned in James Joyce’s book Ulysses, when Leopold Blood dropped in to buy some soap.
