Does anyone have any recommendations on software that can be used to create a photo slideshow with background music that can be burned to a DVD.

I use Muvee for slideshows and video editing. Extremely sophisticated and professional results. Not free though. Check out the demo:
For slideshows only: http://www.muvee.com/en/products/mnow/mnow
For slideshows and video: http://www.muvee.com/en/products/ap/ap6

OK, the software I used at the time was Video Studio 7. It was very easy to use after you had got your head around it.
I have just checked and they are on version 11 now!

I just did one for my daughter's daycare center using Photoshop Elements. Very basic but easy and inexpensive.

If you have Nero 8 you can also use that to create a movie. You can add Photos and also music, and add effects to the photos so that as they change the morph in and out etc.

I have used Memories on TV. Not expensive and very user friendly. Creates fabulous DVD shows. Allows you to have a main menu, so you can create chapters. This is great! Plenty of effects, paning and zooming. Also you can download templates if you are feeling lazy :)
http://www.codejam.com/ go and download a trial version and check it out.

Snappers I am amidst learning ProShow Producer. http://www.photodex.com/This software definitely does a lot more than Memories on TV, also much more expensive. More in line for professional photographers.
If you want to be awe struck have a look at some of the works people of created.
http://www.photodex.com/sharing/spotlight Check out the Celebration of Dance for starters. You will be amazed.
The tutorials are excellent on this site. Let me know how you go.
Another cheaper software was one from Cyberlink. Created a very successful show through this as well. http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_5_ENU.html
These links will keep you busy for a tad. Cheers from hot Cairns.

Thanks, The tiger and Seal ones are beautiful, Well worth watching even if you are not interested in making your own shows.
It doesnt seem that expensive, around £30 I think which isnt bad. Looks a sweet piece of software. How have you found it to work with? Easy, difficult?
Not sure I like the dance one, a little too busy although very well put together.
Do you know if once you have created one with this software, can you upload it onto a website so it plays on the website?

Yes I agree that simplicity in shows works very well for many productions. The Dance show was purely for you to see what the software is capable of.
ProShow Standard is US$30, The Gold version is US$70 and the ProShowProducer is US$250.
I just checked yes you can do webshow. I somehow suspect that you cannot do both, so before you would choose the format, I would do a total backup of your work to another folder. That might ensure you to then save this for a DVD show later. Might pay you to email them direct with that question. This is a software I am anticipating to learn after the holidays.
If you only want to do a webshow with music etc there are so many other softwares available. Many are free.
I have just used ShowWeb and it was the easiest that I have ever used. http://www.showitfast.com/ (not free though :()
This took me about 2 hours (incl learning process) to finalise and create a subdomain and upload on my site. Mind you I had all the pages already created throughout another software.
These are the actual pages created for a wedding coffee table book printed for daughter's Christmas present.
This software will be used for clients to view their photos online in future.
Here is the link if interested. Mind you it is a huge file and will take approx 30-40 seconds before it starts. http://www.wedding.perfectoarts.com.au/index.html
The happy couple and friends have seen the show, but do not realise what the images are for. Cannot wait for Christmas and see their faces.
Let me know how you go and any input is appreciated.

That is a great piece of work. Some excellent photos in there. I bet they will be very pleased on Christmas day (maybe a tear or two of joy as well)
Thanks for the info on the options available, I'll have a look at them after christmas and see which one is best for me. I have a website at the moment with some pics on but I wanted to create a moving pic gallery as well, there's plenty of time for that yet though.
