This weekend a friend and I are going to Long Beach, CA and we're going to try to make a landscape collage of the city. In other words, a bunch of smaller pictures will make one large picture. However, I never did a collage of pictures before, at least not this huge.
So, wanted to know if anyone had helpful suggestions on what techniques, settings, or focal lengths I should use. Thanks in advance. :)
(p.s. Tried doing research but only finding information on how to make collages in photoshop, while I want to know how to shoot one with my camera)
I don't believe I've ever heard of an in camera collage before. The closest approximation I can summon up would be double or multiple exposures, with correspondent diminishing of each exposure. Check your manual for double exposure capability.
You'd have to compose mentally. Take a shot with a dark or relatively clear area upper right, for example, then double expose a scene with the lower left area darker or clearer.
I wouldn't expect too much without a bit of experimentation and experience, but that's half the fun.
I know film slr's could double/multiple expose, but I don't know if dslr's can. Mine can't.

Cannot be done as far as I know... collages are all done in software. There are many software that do collages, but the most popular one by far is photoshop.
Double exposures or overlays are something totally different... this is when one picture is completely layed over on top of another. A collage is a collection of photos arranged on a larger canvas in a manner that is pleasing to the eye.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have another question. If I were to make a collage in photoshop, approximately how many pictures would it take? or is it done a different way?

As many as it takes to make you happy... is that 2? 25? Totally up to you, there are no collage making rules that I am aware of... lol
One thing I am sure of... you will learn all about layers in PS for this little project. Search in Google and Youtube for vids about this topic.

Just out of curiousity? Are you asking about making a panoramic of the city instead of a collage? This is a collage....

A panorama is several exposures stitched together to make a huge photo...

Yeah the idea was to create several exposures stitched together.
Update: Was able to go down to Long Beach and had tons of fun snapping photographs of the city. My friend is going to stitch them together so I'll see how the finished project is going to look soon.

Looking forward to seeing your finished product. I had a chance to take some shots in Long Beach a little over a month ago during the full moon.
