For general info, I'm running my computer on a distribution of Linux called, "Ubuntu". To the uninitiated, that means I am unable to run MOST Windows programs without a lot of hoop-jumping. I *AM* able to run Photoshop perfectly however, it takes forever to load as it runs through a Windows emulator. Once loaded, it runs just fine. Now to the point of this thread: I've come across a piece of software that I think runs a REAL close second to Photoshop called, "Pixel". It is astounding and remarkably similar to PS. The real good part for Linux users like me is that there is a native Linux version! It runs lickety-split on my somewhat older machine and offers a LOT of the functionality of PS. Gimp is good. Don't get me wrong. And, for those quick red-eye removals, Picasa is just fine. But, Pixel is really a gem. It is still in beta but, you'd never know it by running it. There are versions for Windows and Mac, too. There are free downloadable demos available and you can purchase it when ready for the amazingly low price of $38US! The author is available for questions/suggestions/comments and it even has a support forum. Check it out at http://www.kanzelsberger.com If this piece of software has already been discussed, please forgive the intrusion. And... no, I don't work for them. :D
