This flower is growing through my front step....can anyone tell me what it is?

Thanks!

Great shot Sandy. I love the detail on the inside of the flowers.
Sorry, I don't know the name... you would think it would have to the Bell.... something.

Hi Kaye,

Thanks for looking! I just learned that it's a foxglove.

Great shot Sandy, I like the composition and focus. Yes it's a foxglove.

Also known as "digitalis" - where they get heart medication from :)

Hi Melanie!

Yes that's right, and a good one to keep your horses (and others!) away from as it is very poisonous.
It's very strange to see it pop up here, as I can't remember having seen it here before.

A pretty one? I missed botany 101 while in college. I was doing Underwater Basket-Weaving 101 instead.
Seriously... that's pretty cool! And it's growing through your front steps? Whoa...

Hi Doug,

I think photography teaches you botany 101....one of the many added benefits I'm
discovering! Yes it's growing through the front steps which have lots of "character", but never get used for their intended purpose.....they were built with old stones when the house was built. Pretty to look at, but the side door is much more user friendly.

Now we need to see a pic of your steps...

For you Pat......the front steps just before the sun hit them full blast....the 2nd one
shows you some of the handywork, and to the upper right you can see a glimpse of the overexposed foxglove flowers.

Thank-you, Sandy. I do love old stone work. Your steps certainly exude character.
I've read that if you take a handfull of moss and mix with water in a blender (presumably an old one), you can then paint the resulting slurry on stones, statues, etc and moss will grow over them.(semi-shade, I'd guess).
Looked it up... http://www.ehow.com/how_11697_grow-moss-garden.html
Dang, I'd hate to waste a beer but chances of finding buttermilk in my fridge are less than nil, whereas beer, well, that's a whole other kettle of fish.

That's a great thing to know Pat! I'll have to test it out somewhere.....other than the steps! A couple more views here.

Sandy, these are lovely. They are certainly steps with CHARACTER. Just unusable!

Thank you Kaye! I think I need to use these steps more often (to practice macro shots with). I knew they would come in handy!

And abstract composition. #2 of the second two is a beautious riot of texture and colour. :)

Pat,

I have you to thank for discovering this beautious riot! I've walked right by it many
a day without a glance.....now I'm thinking the overexposed greens in the lower left
are distracting.....I hate it when I start thinking.

So I edited the greens....adjusted exposure slightly, and did a little cloning.

Hi Sandra,
Can you post a shot of it? Would love to see it.
