How can I change the resolution on my camera. All my photos are 180dpi and when I create a slideshow in Adobe elements the quality disimproves.

Have you checked any of the Canon forums? I Googled for it a little bit but couldn't come up with anything.

You cannot set the dpi value on your camera. In fact I don't know about any camera that does that. Digital cameras work in pixels. What you do is set the picture size in menu using available values which are:
L (maximum resolution, large size, 3264x2448 pixels)
M1 (medium1, 2592x1944 pixels)
M2 (medium1, 2048x1536 pixels)
M3 (medium1, 1600x1200 pixels)
S (small, 640x480 pixels)
W (wide 3264x1832 - used with 16:9 aspect ratio)

and don't forget to keep the compression ratio at "S" meaning Superfine.

Let us know if this is what you're looking for

Thank you for reply. I changed my settings to L and S but still when I resize the image down to 1024x768 I am still getting poor image quality the pixels are visible at the edges. I am just a beginner so I expect problems. I took images on automatic settings and manual to see was there a difference but both had the same problem when viewed in Adobe elements.

Well that's because 1024 x 768 is a poor quality. By downsizing the photo to 1024 x 768 you're reducing your image resolution that's why the pixels become visible. It's like taking it with less than 1 Megapixel camera. Why are you reducing it down to that size?

I am required to display my images at that size for a photography assignment!! So if I want to resize my large image will there automatically be a loss of pixels even if I save image as a tiff file? Can you please point me in the direction of reading on this subject.

Here's some links regarding resizing of photos, hope this helps.
Once you have resized your image, how are you presenting it for your assignment? Do you have to print it, or is it attached to an email etc?

Not too sure on abobe elements at the moment, that is something I want to learn more about. Did the resizing work or are you still having problems with it?

No I still haven't figured out what is happening. In the exif data no matter what settings for image size I use on the camera all images come in at a resolution of 180. Does this mean 180dpi or does it mean something else?
I have not had a chance to read all your links yet but photoshop support site has info that I think will help me all I need is time!

Hmmmm. I would have thought it meant DPI but not sure why it is the same for all the settings. Perhaps Peter will be able to answer that one.

Let us know when you get this sorted as it may well help others in the future.

When you say "all images come in at a resolution of 180dpi" where do you actually check that? Do you open the image in Photoshop or other application? Where does it say 180dpi? If you could post the screen-print of the particular window with all the image specifications, that would help.
