Please Help..............................
Not sure if I am having a bad day or what!

What is the best way to resize a photo to get it on to the forum for critique. I am using Photoshop Elements 6, and am trying to resize the photo with 'image resize', but if I reduce the quality I cannot get to the required size for the forum (max file size of 585Kb). How do I resize the image without losing significant quality but still reducing the file size?

Many Thanks

Jon

Hi Jon,
When you resize, what are you resizing to? Is it Jpeg? If so, when you go to save the image you are given an option for the quality of the Jpeg I think it is something like 1 - 11, 11 being the higest, if you lower this number, the image size lowers too. Have a go at that and see if it solves your problem, if not let me know and I'll have a rethink.

OK, I have just tried this with Photoshop.
I took an image which was 2.26meg
I when to image size in the Image menu and then resized the image from
3008 * 2000 Pixels to 2000 * 1330 Pixels.
You will probably notice that this still says that the file is over 1mb, dont worry.
Go to Save as and them pick Jpeg format and name your file then click on save.
You will now get a Jpeg options menu up asking for the quality to save at, if you tick preview and look below that, it will tell you the size of the file.
If I have mine at quality 10, it gives me a file size of 481.7k. You will need to play around with the figures a little but it is easy enough. Hope that explains it a litte better.

Hi Andy, I'm thinking of putting up a panorama shot that is 157.48 x 87.59 and 1649.8 Kb. Can this be uploaded and if so do I downsize in the normal way (don't see a special method on the site for panorama's)
Thanks
Eddie

Eddie, just upload it to your gallery and link it in from there. It will get resized automatically.

Hi Eddie, Gary beat me to it but yes, you just upload it as you normally would, however, remember that the size of your panorama may well be very large so it could be worth resizing a little before uploading.

If using photoshop..best way to resize for web gallery and forums like this is to image>image size and make the largest number (width for landscape, height for portrait) 600 pixels, the image will be resized then go to file>save for web and devices then save as a jpeg, it remains great quality and is small enough to upload in seconds rather than weeks lol:D
