I'm in the market but have no idea!! Too much out there. Anyone have any suggestions/recomendations for a not too expensive system to start out with? Also, would you recomend continious or strobe and why?
Thanks.

Check out amvona.com I've got some of their stuff and it's well-made and reasonably priced.

I purchased some strobes from www.alienbees.com and have been very happy with them. They seemed to be a good bang for the buck and have stood up pretty well. I haven't really had any experience with continuous so I can't really speak for them over strobes.

The continuous lighting I was around was very hot after a while, and everyone was sweating! I don't know about cooler lighting but I was around OLD lights.

I guess continuous lighting is easier to work with in tht you can set it up whilst the light is shining on your subject rather than seeing a flash go off, plus Red eye would not be as much of a problem but I would have thought that a continous light would wear the bulb out prety quick.

I'm sure they both have their pros and cons, I suppose really it depends on what you are using them for.
