Here's a couple of shots. Both max zoom. I just cropped the one of the finch but resized them both so they'd be accepted here.
The cool thing about the guy on the porch is -- he's about 200 yards away and I took the shot without a tripod through glass!

Have a look.

What not to like!? It's not quite as easy as the Kodak, but then, it's not meant to be. I'll master it, you'll see. heh

This is my baby. He is 3 years old. My sister became very ill and could not leave the house so I let her take him home. It made her feel better. He talks he head off. He is so smart, but the way he can speak in all of our voices it is rather scary. He is an Eclectus Parrot from the Solomon Islands. He is dimorphic. The girls are red and blue, and the boys are this green. (sorry about the spelling)

Yeah now I remember that is so cool. I go to this wild bird store that we have here, and it is amazing how much cool stuff they have. They even have a camera that you can install and watch them inside. I was amazed. How do you keep the squirells out?

When he bites I sometimes wish he was! Just kidding, but he does bite hard (he never bites me because he knows I am not afraid of him) He pecks me with his beak and makes a kissing sound. (no I dont let him kiss my lips) he pecks my cheek.

Wild Birds, Unlimited? We have one here! That's where I got my Hummzinger.

I consider the squirrels another subject to shoot so, I don't even worry about them. The tree line in the rear of the property is about 100 feet away. They have to cross open ground to get to the feeders in the rear. Remember the hawk? :) Squirrels are smart. 1 hawk + 1 squirrel = dinner for 1 Actually, there WAS one that came up for the corn I put out on the patio. The hawk WAS out in a nearby tree. And, he WAS intently watching the dinn... I mean, squirrel. But, by golly, the little dude made it back to the tall grass and the trees. I don't know how, but he did because he was gone and the hawk was still in the tree wondering what happened to dinner. :D

When I went into our local park recently there were squirrels in the trees. They would sit still for ages but as soon as I pressed the shutter release, they moved!!! AGhhhhhhh. I have not been able to return again yet but oneday I plan to go with some food and spend a few hours there to see what happens.

There is also a large bird there (Who's name escapes me at the moment :o) and he sits at one end of the lake. So, I gradually make my way around and as soon as I get within shooting distance, off he flys to the other end of the lake, I'm sure he thought it was a game, but I will suceed, I will go with my zoom next time and camouflage if needs be:D

Be sure you get down on level with them, Andy. One thing I learned a while back from God-knows-where is to get level with or slightly below your target/subject (except if they have a double chin -- heheheh) and fill the viewfinder.

If that bird is there everyday, and you have the time, you can actually get it to eat out your hand. I've done it with a few jays, titmouse, and a few chickadees. This is where a remote comes in handy (guess who's got one on order?). I'll get getting some shots of that this summer, for sure!

After some much deserved sleep, I have remembered what the bird is called. It's a Heron:) Not sure I would like it eating out of my hand though, it would probably take my hand off!

As for getting below the squirrels, They were way up in the tree.:D:D
