Not sure if everyone is aware of these National Geographic links, so I am posting them here.

This link is Your Shot. A location on NatGeo's website where you can post a pic once a month and it could be selected for publication in their monthly magazine.

This link is My Shot. A location where you may create your own gallery of photos. (This is the place where I initially posted my Orion Nebula photo which NatGeo selected for sale)

Enjoy!

Thank you for sharing the link Johnbiondo, I always like the NatGeo Galleries.
However, I couldn't find your gallery, do you use the same user name?

Thanks for posting these links John. When I have some better equipment, I may give this a go.

I know a photographer that used to be on the payroll at National Geographic (not personally, but online)... he recently lost his job thanks to this very project.

It seems that NatGeo seems to think that the general public are going to be able to do a better job at providing them with photos than this trained professional.

Kinda sad if you think about it.

Wow, that is sad.... We all know there is a marked level of difference from the home shooter to professional. You'd think NatGeo of all publishers would realize that.

Jerry, this is sad, and I really appreciate what you are saying.
With the huge changes in our "digital" world, things like this will happen even more often.

Large companies will get greedier and will do anything to save a dollar, and as communications become easier and easier, ... in another 50 years... my guess would be that maybe no one will have a job then. (We will probably not be around then to witness this...)

Everyone wants to look after the PLANET, but they have forgotten about the people who live in it.

Thanks for this kind comment John. I am still working at improving each day.
I just had a photo accepted on "Your shot" and have now set up "My shot".
Thanks for the info.

Very nice. Thanks for the link. I submitted one as well. I don't expect anything to happen, but it is fun to imagine something may. :)

Hi John,

I have spent a little time researching the National Geographic site. I think it is wonderful, and again I thank you for posting this.

I have posted a shot to "Your Shots" but do not expect that anything further will happen with this shot, as the standard is extremely high.

I have also posted several of my images to "My Shots" on the National Geographic site. I think it is wonderful, and have rec'd ratings & comments already :)

I would like to post the link to my gallery so that others may also sort of see how it works:

Link to Kaye Menner's Gallery:

John, I also cannot locate your gallery on this site and did follow your details in one of your posts above.

Thanks.

Wow Kaye - Nice images! You selected very nice ones to post there.

I have to agree, I have been sending in an image to "Your Shot" each month for about 6 months and nothing has become of them, so yes the standards are very high indeed. Even the one they selected for sale (The Orion image) was not selected for print.

Thanks very much John, I am slowly going through some of my shots and posting what I consider the better ones.

I am surprised that your "Orion Image" was not a winner. How good does one have to be??

Thanks again John, I have checked it out with success. Very nice images. I slipped in a couple of ratings.

I think with "Your shot", it may just take a fluke to win....
PS...Want to send you a PM re something else.
