Does anyone use a vertical grip? If so how do you like it?

Is that like a battery pack, gives you a bigger grip on the camera while also extending battery life? If so I have not heard of them called Vertical Grips. If not I do not know what one is!

Yeah but the one for my camera also has all of the buttons on the vertical grip so when you are shooting portraits it is easier.

I see, sounds good, although would you have to train yourself to use the buttons on the grip as oppossed to the main body. One of the good things about the battery grips (Canon model, not sure if it is the same for yours) is that normal AA batteries will fit into it, so if you do run out of camera specific battery juice, you can always buy normal AA batteries to get you by.

They do add some weight to the camera, which some people may either love or hate.

The vertical grip for mine takes two of the camera batteries that way if one is dead it will use the other one without stopping during the shoot. Also the buttons on mine is I think the same as on my camera back, so it would be the same

I once tried my friends Nikon with the Battery grip. It did make the camera very heavy which kind of defeated the object. The item you are talking about though Sue sounds much better. If you are doing portraits though, wouldnt you be using a tripod mainly?
