Hi there! I am looking to purchase the PP course, but I had some questions for you guys, so if you don't mind taking the time to answer one or several of them, it would be greatly appreciated!

Just a little about me... I am a camera freak! It comes with me where ever I go! I mainly like to photograph people (of all ages) and I alrady have a little business on the side. I am looking to advance my skill level and start to use lighting. As of right now, I only use available light, which I love, but I sometimes feel if I could only "fill in" those dark spots, it would make my work perfect :) I do not have a studio and will not be using one any time soon, so the "studio lighting" course is not what I need (or at last I don't think I do... haha). I am looking for a course that will help me learn how to use off camera flash to enhance my outdoor photographs.

Here are my questions....

-Did you notice a difference in you portrait photography?

-Does it address lighting at all (inside and outside)?

-If you had a pretty good understanding of your camera (stops, speeds, etc.) did you find it too much at the beginners level or is this course more for anyone who would like to advance in their skill level?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Sabrina

I took the course about a year ago I found it very good in as much it focused(pardon the pun)the mind on what you wanted to achieve in a particular photo.

Can’t remember which lesson but in one lesson there is a sort of sub site if that’s the correct explanation where you go to a site by Neil van Niekerk on using flash on and off the camera. I found this extremely helpful, as I hated flash, but he explains a lot how to use flash techniques on and off the camera, and now I use flash instead studio lights all the time. He also has a book called “on camera flash” which I have bought and found very good.

I have posted some photos to show some of the techniques I have learnt

The first three photos are twin flashes off the camera fired with manual settings
The photo of my wife was taken in the pouring of rain, I bounced the flash as a fill in off the garage door above my head.

I hope this will help.

Delboy.

The course is made very simple, but I still suggest you go through the course. I was more advanced than you a year ago, still took the course and still benefited from it.

All people who start out have gaps in their knowledge, this place helps fill in those gaps.

As far as flash is concerned, though, one still cannot beat the www.strobist.com website for off camera flash. There, look for lighting 101 and 102, but you will need to have FIRM grasps of all the basics before starting here, it helps a LOT and this is where the course here makes things so much easier for you.

Feel free to do a search here and find out if you can find even one person here that was not completely satisfied after taking this course... it is very well laid out.

I am definitely going to being taking this course! I have been reading up on it and after I got two responses from y'all, I think it's a must! I do have some "gaps" in my photography knowledge that I want to fill :)

I am so excited and can't wait to start!

Thanks again!

Also jerryph has some very good posts on flash tecniques in the thread "light and lighting tecniques" which I would recommend anyone to read and use.
