A few weeks ago Jon asked some questions about a remote. I found this little dandy that might save you some money. Worth checking out:

Heheheheheheh Nice one.
You got me thinking (again!)
My phone has ir on it, now, wouldn't it be neat if I could use my phone to control my camerahttp://www.smileycons.com/img/classic/0002.gif
So, I did a little bit of investigation work on the internet (a wonderful thing it is too) and came across a program which works with my phone to turn it into a fully functional Remote control for tv, video, dvd etc, etc and get this, the Nikon D70shttp://www.smileycons.com/img/classic/0024.gif
So, I have downloaded said program, now all's I need to do is get the code for the Nikon into the program and vola, hopfully I will then be able to control my camera from my phone.http://www.smileycons.com/img/classic/0176.gif

Amazing stuff, eh? I can't use it... so far. Don't know about the Canon S5. I'll receive it tomorrow and play, play, play!
It's pretty cool when you go looking for one thing and stumbles across something totally irrelevant but MUCH cooler!

Indeed it is. I often thought what would we have done before the internet. Sooooooooo Much information out there and the ability to learn so many new things. The surface is only just being scratched.
However, on the downside, sometimes I sit at my pc for hours searching the net, not coming up with anything and then wondering where the hours have gone.http://www.smileycons.com/img/classic/0346.gif

It could be worse, your computer could be in a different room and then she would not see you at all!

Wow, great site, think I may get some strange looks in the outside world, pointing a TV remote at my camera!!
I like the idea of using my phone though, did you have the website to hand Snappers?

There you go, but it only works with certain phones so you will have to check compatibility. I still havnt tried it on my phone yet but I'll let you know when i do.

It's worth having a search around as there may be another program that will support it.
I've still not got around to trying mine yet! I really must try it and see if it works.

What kind of camera do you have? I've seen a book about digital camera hacks that has some different types of remotes. I made one for a Canon 300 D out of a film canister and a couple connectors from Radio Shack.

I found this http://users.tkk.fi/~jwagner/electr/d70remote/
it might be a little involved to build but then again you might be a whiz at that sort of thing.

Thanks. Sounds a little complicated for me. A remote from ebay is only £4.50 so I have ordered one of those.

Oh deary me! Remember that lesson about reading your manual! Perhaps I should have paid more attention.
I noticed it said that you had to change your settings to enable the IR remote on the camera which I thought I had done but then I decide to read the manual and my phone will now actually fire my shutter! So it does work:)
Another lesson learnt!:D
