Fantastic colours & detail. I presume these are more like full size umbrella shades, and not the type you put in a drink :D

Ian,
This is such a great subject, and a beautiful image.
How did you come across this?
It looks like the shades are on display, and not really in use here, but it's hard to tell for sure. It looks like a garden!

Well, Ian, I just love this! Were people holding them or is it a display?

Hi Ian this just appeals to me on all levels…beautiful use of colour and fantastic visual impact.
What ever the rest of this scene looked like you obviously honed in on this…so well done for spotting it, shooting it and posting it…excellent shot

Thanks. They were on display at the night market in Luang Probang, Laos.
Glad you like the image.

Were these in one of the stalls at the market? I like the colour and very cute design idea. OOPs sorry did'nt read all the posts before submitting mine.
Ian, whilst on was on National Geographic site, I came across a photo which was listed as Travel Photo of the Week.... I initially thought it may have been one of yours until I read the name.

Sorry Kaye, don’t see the relevance of your last post…it’s not Ian’s photo you are link us to and you are not giving critique so why post it in the critique section…just seems irrelevant IMO.
I also view it as a bit discrediting to Ian’s photo, regardless of the similarity and see no need for comparison shots like this. But that’s just my own opinion.

Didn't notice this post before. Nice image Ian. Love the colors and detail. Once again, a great photo-op that you didn't let get by you!

Man... this is incredible. So simple but yet so intriguing. Always stellar shots!

Hi Ian,
Having read (with surprise ) Mark's post above, I would like to give you my reason for posting my above post with the link....
From some of our previous discussions over time, I know you enjoy viewing others' shots from Cambodia, and personally felt that you would not take offence to this.
I was initially surprised to find a similar shot on NG when browsing through some of the winning shots. I see your shot being far superior to the one shown in the link, and thought that with your high quality work, you may benefit and/or get some enjoyment from posting some of your work here.
I am sure you will realise/understand that I was in no way discrediting your photo.
Ian, please let me know if you have any issues with this, and I will remove my post and the link. :)
Regards,

Not a problem, I found it interesting that another togger saw a similar image in the same place.:)

I really feel you are taking the words "Critique Corner" too far. Sure, it is wonderful in my opinion to receive critique, as this is the way one learns. I would also encourage critique when a member feels there can be some improvement in a shot, but a member may not always see any way to make improvements.
A total beginner would have trouble critiquing one of your shots. They may wish to tell you how beautiful it is!
At present, some of us not so experienced photographers are very happy to share our thoughts on beautiful shots, but if Critique Corner is PURELY for critique, then you will scare all these members away from commenting on many threads/posts.
As I see it, Critique Corner is for both COMMENTS and CRITIQUE, not only critique.
Over time you yourself have posted many posts that do not at all involve critique.
Although you have now chosen not to comment on my threads, in the past I do recall some of your comments were purely for "chit-chat". eg.
So that’s…...A case full of socks…1 toothbrush and 1 towel…I think I can manage that…what about my camera.......
Chit-chat is fun, Photography is fun. Let's not take the fun out of it!
My view is that members can freely choose whether they COMMENT, CRITIQUE.... OR EVEN CHAT to another member in a post in Critique Corner.
They may wish to chat about the location of the shot or something similar. It doesn't matter IMO.
If there are too many hard & fast rules, I feel members will drift away!
Anyway, just my 2 cents worth!
PS Sorry Ian for invading your thread with all this.

Its not a problem. I am always open to suggestions from all, be it beginners or the more experience toggers. An openess within all threads, to ask questions, where, when and how are part of learning the process of critique IMO and I would never object to being asked question about any image (as I have demonstrated in the past) and neither do I object to ''its horrible'' or its ''good'' if that is an honest opinion. :):)
Thanks very much Ian for your response. I agree totally with what you are saying and appreciate your "openess" to receive whatever honest information members wish to post.
BTW, my message response you quoted above was directed to Mark as a response to his short post, as I did not want to bother you with this.
Thanks again Ian for your time to read all this.

Mark I believe you'd do best if you didn't respond to this any more.
Kaye's comment was completely relevant to Ian's post and like others I also found it interesting that someone else had chosen the same subject making it almost look like it was made by the same author. She was the first one to give a critique in her first comment and I don't think she's breaking any forum rules with her additional second post. Let's not try to be needlessly tough with the rules to the point that people feel uncomfortable posting here. It's contra-productive. If you're concerned about members breaking the rules, simply report the post instead.
Thank you, thread closed.
