Wow... pretty bizarre. Aside from the long exposure, what did you use to create the "light"?

I used a mini-mag flashlight with just the bulb showing for the light

Cool. Did you just run a set of fine wires out the front with the bulb soldered on?

Very creative! Like it.

On long exposure you can wave a light infront of the camera and it will give the effect without showing the actual torch. I believe this may be how Kumod did it but I'm sure he will correct me If I am wrong.

Andy -

I have actually participated in the kind of shot with light being waved. I went on a night shoot and our instructor had us set our exposure to 30sec and focus on her. She then spelled out the name of a city with a bright flash light - very cool effect. I'll post the picture this weekend.

Kumod's probably did the same thing or similar, and if this is what he did - he has an extremely steady hand to follow the laces which I very much admire.

I was showing the kids this a couple of weeks ago. I wrote my name on the wall, and they thought it was the coolest thing! It actually kept them entertained for hours. We made a lot of things this way. I just left it on bulb, and wrote away! Its a fun thing to do.

Hi everyone,

I just took the cap of the mini mag flashlight off the flashlight so just the bulb was showing. On a mini mag the bulb is really small probably an LED bulb. I had the camera on a small tripod close to the ground and then set my timer on the camera to something like 90 seconds. Then I turned all the lights off and started moving the flashlight up and down and all around the boots. I'm not sure what my aperture was set for but you just can just experiment with it.

I've seen some pretty interesting things done with sparklers on the 4th of July. You can do a google search for Painting with light Photography and go to images and see some cool shots done this way. Whats great about it is you can have your hands and arms all in the picture but they won't show up.

This is also the way people take pictures of the long car light streaks. You know where you see the city street and the building clear but there are long streaks for the car tail or head lights. It's really a lot of fun
