Believe it or not, after three recovery programs and 2 days of trying to recover lost photos, I think I have most of what was lost.:):):) YEAH for me!
And yes - backup will be more regular than once a month - after this, maybe every 2 days.
Hope to have more posted to my galleries by this weekend.

Andy -
You have no idea what a relief. I was afraid I had lost Christmas pictures of my grandsons, a trip to the N. Shore and photos from the Holidazzle parade.
Tonite, I'll be going through what's been recovered and start processing so I can post to the galleries this weekend.

I am glad that you were able to get some of your photos! I know how losing something like that is. My son made me a video of all of the kids and it really meant something to me because I was a single parent for so many years. The song was about that it said something like "you were my mom you were my dad - blah blah blah and I just want to cry everyday when I think of it being gone! (my younger son took it over a friends house and they didnt know what it was and threw it away!) I can never bring that back. I guess I should have made 10 copies of it. Oh well.

Wow, glad to hear you got most of your stuff back. I think thats one thing with digital photography that we all need to really think about. I mean you could back up your stuff to CD or DVD and still have it become unreadable at some point and there you go. I guess with film you always had your negatives and could get them reprinted if need be, provided you took care of them etc.
Certainly something to think about, I wonder what the PRO's are doing.

Hence, the case for places like Flickr, Inbox.com, Google webalbum, etc. I've got mine uploaded to at LEAST 2 of 'em.

The computer is finally up and running - the pictures I thought I lost have been recovered and immediately copied to an external back-up drive. I've even posted some pictures. Check out the Nature and Animals in the Photo Critique Corner.

Debbie, It's good to hear you got the images back but dont forget to back them up to a cd/dvd as well as your external Hard Drive as well, just incase anything happens to the Hard Drive.

Actually Andy -
Everything was supposed to be backed up to an external drive. The software program that was set up to perform weekly backups was not backing up. That piece of &*&%&#&*& has now been taken off the computer.
My neighbor was kind enough to come over and write a .bat program that when I click on the icon, it copies the "my documents" folder to said external drive. I feel more comfortable doing it myself - that way I know its done.

Indeed Debbie, I would still save a copy of your backup to CD or DVD as well as you Hard Drive though. The reason I say this, My mum backed up to a hard drive (external) and the files were on there but then one day she come to use the External Hard Drive and it would not work!
It is always best to have more than one back up copy!

It does not take long but is well worth it should anything happen to your hard drive, otherwise you could stand to loose everything and next time you may not be as lucky as you were this time in getting nearly everything back. If you have a second backup at least our chance of loosing everything is drastically reduced.
