What wonderful macros Andy. I am glad you told me it was moss, or I would not have known what it was.
What lens did you use for this?

Thanks for looking Kaye, I use a Nikon D5000 and Nikkor 105mmm F2.8 lens
Thanks Andy.
How do you find the D5000. I am hoping to get the D90, but still waiting  My decision now is whether to settle for the D5000, or perhaps the D3100 which I quickly checked out the other day.
I would love your thoughts on this.
How is the D5000 for noise? And any other info you'd like to tell me.
Thanks.

Hi Kaye, I love the D5000 and all about it; I opted for this as it was a bit easier to use, although when using manual it does seem a lot of button pressing. My mate bought a D7000 and love it too, that said they are roughly double the price. I had one issue with the body and had to send it back to Nikon UK, this was that the camera was back focussing; LarryH used to give me dogs abuse for being off focus, I knew I wasn't so got onto Nikon, they adjusted the sensor and focus circuit; bob on.
Noise is the same as any other as far as I am aware, it hasn't been a huge issue to me; if I need smooth I use a bit of Topaz denoise, but heyho.
If you wish to read up on camera's have a look at http://www.dpreview.com/
You may already know the site, but I find it good to read up on kit before buying it.
Would I go for the D5000 again, YES without a second thought.
I will eventually move up the ranks and probably try to get a D700, but that will be way down the line.
Thanks
Andy

Andy, these are simply awesome! I hope to get a macro lens some day (when I learn how to use the camera first!!)and shoot insects, florals, and now moss!

Hi Marianne, it is real fun, when I bought the camera last year following some serious knee surgery I wasn't sure of what genre I really wanted to do. I looked at macro, saved hard and bought the micro Nikkor, I am so glad that I did as it opens up a whole new world of photography. The DOF is hard to control, so I bought myself a Sigma twin flash, weight goes up, but it gives you greater DOF; that said, these were natural light.
Thanks for looking, and I hope you get the glass and I look forward to watching your talent grow in macro.

Those are cool Andy. Moss is a real bugger to take Macro shots of, you did a nice job.
Andy, thank you very much for your feedback on the D5000 and the link. I will keep doing my homework on these, but it is always good to hear from someone using a particular camera.

Thank you Scott, I always struggle to get enough light to allow the DOF to work in my favour.
Thanks for looking

Kaye, no problem at all, if you were here in the UK I would have loaned you the camera to go and play with it.
The time will come, just go as high up the market as possible, not the 3100, your imaging is above that level.
Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy, I really thank you for your offer to loan your camera, but yes, I am a little far away :D
I went to a camera store the other day, and talked to the Owner... he says the D3100 (not the D3000 - this is very basic) is superior to the D5000 ?? (He says this is a new/recent upgrade, and not to take notice of the largest number (eg 3 or 5) in the name or series. From what I see, he may be correct.
Anyway, not quite ready yet to buy, but will make sure my homework is done before I do. Thanks for all your help on this. My real aim is still the D90, or better if I find a good deal.
Inspired by your beautiful moss shots, I had to give it a go, but have posted to Nature & Animals, as it is not as "Macro" as your beautiful shots above.
Thanks for all your help.

I live and learn about the 3100, I hope you can get the D90 or 7000; my aim is for the 700 or higher, but it'll have to wait a while.
Thanks for the feedback and the comments on the moss; it has been a bit rainy here so aint doing too much.

Which is one of the biggest struggles with macro. Have you considered using flash? If gives you much more aperture and shutter freedom. I rarely shoot macro without anymore. See links in my sig for a few examples. I love your first image, good composition. Your second image is cool too, but I see significant haloing usually due to over-sharpening.

Hi Joseph and sorry for the above, I had completely missed your first name and for some daft reason started to call you Scott, like my mates first name (DOH) !!!
I have bought a flash and am still figuring it all out, I got a Sigma twin flash, pretty neat thing it is.
Thanks for looking and your observations and comments, very much appreciated.

Congrats on the new toy. Funny thing is, my middle name is Scott, and most people know me by that. Spooky :)
