I did some cloning per Gary's suggestions. I like how the bird 'shows' up better but it kind of messed up the clarity of his beak. I think there must have been a branch in front of it or the bird was eating leaves. Not sure! Anyway, here's the revised version.

Told you I was bird illiterate...:D I like it much better too, thank you for the suggestion! This is what I've been needing to take my photography to the next level...a class and a great group to critique my work. Thanks, Gary. I'll be hollering later when I get my feeders.

Beautiful!
I think you guys/gals are just being too kind. I've never had my photos called beautiful. Course, I've never really shown them to anyone but my family. Thanks, Susan, you made me smile big.

I really like how crisp that photo is. Were you using the kit lense or another one?

Ok, how do I set this to give me notification when a new post has been posted to a thread? I miss so much unless I just open every thread and look. Sorry, just found this right now.
I was using the kit lens. Or, I guess it would be the kit lens. I bought my camera body and then bought the wide angle 18-70 lens and the 70-300 lens. Since then, I've read where these are both sold as kit lenses with the body. This was taken before I started shooting raw and just shortly after I started using the manual controls. Since I don't know how to add the exif information to the photo, I'll send it by attaching a picture. I've recently purchased a prime 50 mm lens and love it. I like to use it in the house when I'm shooting my grandson in low light. He's still young enough that he doesn't care. I dread the day when he tells me to put my camera away. :( I'd like to purchase a better telephoto lens but have to save the money first.

Welp... you CAN go to the top bar and click "New Posts". That should do ya. OR, when you make a new post or reply, scroll down to "Additional Options" and check out the Notification Type.

Great...I'll give both of those ideas a try. And, no, I've still not backed up a single photo. I really need to get that started, its back to work tomorrow.
Thanks, Gary!

Nice shot Mary. I too miss some posts even though I have topic notification on. I also missed the original photo before Gary's advice so I'll have to have a look for that thread.
I have the Camera shy problem with my family. My wife hate's the camera and my niece is has her moments when she doesnt like her picture taken.
Ah well, just have to keep getting those crafty shots!

This is a great shot. You must have a camera similar to mine, Canon Rebel?? I have the 50mm prime as well - when I can get the kids focused, it takes great shots. The older one is already tired of me taking pictures of him - the youngest doesn't know better yet.

Ok, giving this a try. I went into my User CP and changed a bunch of stuff in there. For one, I changed the message window to Enhanced something or other? :D I just read it but don't remember what it was called. Anyway, it lets me type and edit in 'real' time..I can see my font and all my edits as I type. I like this much better. I still can't keep the font but its easy to select as soon as I open the reply window. I also changed it in there to get my notifications in my email. That way I can open my mail when I get home at night and see replies that have been posted to threads I've posted in.
The original picture is in another thread. Gary made the suggestion to clone out some of the branches and it helped it a bunch. I just need to be better with the cloning tool.
My in-law side of the family is super camera shy but I prefer to catch them in a candid moment when they don't realize I'm doing it. If they catch me, its a definite trash picture. :D Now my hubby doesn't like his picture taken but he will let me practice on him when I need to test my lighting and such. Christmas morning, I took about 20 pics of him and not one single one of them had his eyes open.. My daughter got a big kick out of that. He blinks too fast for me!
So...its catch them if I can in my family..:)
I'm still working on making a signature...so far I've not figured it out.

Thanks, Debbie. I get one good one to about 1000 bad ones. Thus, the reason I started the course. My camera is the Sony Alpha 100. I bought it a little over a year ago. My wonderful friend from West Virginia (whom is also taking this course but hasn't introduced herself yet...hint, hint, Nita!) had just bought her the Canon Rebel and that was the camera I was actually going to buy. I went to a Ritz camera shop and the guy talked me into spending another $100. and buying the Sony and I've never regretted my purchase. I've wondered many times what I'd got myself into but not the purchase. I still think I have tons to learn but I can honestly say I know way more than I did the day I made my purchase. If I had it to do over again. I would have bought the camera body and one lens and then held off buying the other lens until I knew more about what I was doing.
I bought my Minolta 50 mm prime lens off ebay. I had bid on a couple before it but got outbid at the last moment. Ended up giving less for the one I got then what I bid on the others. Guess no one was really wanting one when I bid on it. I'm always happy with pictures from it unless I want something more in focus and I've forgot to stop down my aperature. It's definitely a sharp lens. But then, from what I've read, all prime lens are sharp. My next lens is going to be a good telephoto. I love going out to take wildlife photos and my 70-300mm lens just isn't good enough for that. Or, maybe it's the photographer and after this course she'll be able to use that lens better. ;)
I have a nephew that will NOT let anyone take his picture except me and he'll ask me to take it.:D
