I caught this turkey vulture about 25-28 feet from my back door with the 50-200mm + EC-20. They are cropped VERY little. Not too pretty but VERY efficient!

Great series Gary. I like the clear detail of the feathers you guys seem to be able to get. I don't think these are the most attractive birds photograph, but you have a done an excellent job AGAIN. Is this bird a native of where you live, as I always associated Vultures with deserts?

Thanks very much, Delboy. They are, indeed, native to this area and many more. In fact, they can be found in all the continental states. Recently, I've see some Black Vultures here. They seem to be extending their range a bit northward. They are a little more "photogenic" but seem to be more aggressive than the Turkey vulture.

i agree with Delboy

the head is ugle but the feathers are pretty

cause it was just setting there watching the cars go around it
poor thing

neat captures. I've not seen one this close before. If you dodge that head in the first one it will be a killer. :)

Thanks! Why dodge the head?

Thanks! Why dodge the head?

I just think that if the head and eye were brighter it would really pop. Right now the grass is bright and the head is a bit dull.
