Just wondering how many of you have VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol). In the US it would be through a company like Vonage or some of the cable companies do it. I don't know if BT has begun this or not (Andy? Jon?)

Not me - not really interested yet. Still waiting for Vonage to work out kinks, have the lawsuit against them resolved, better 911 access, etc.

We tend to use Skype for video conferencing. Only use it for the immmediate family to see Grandchildren. I really sing it's praises, especially as it is completely free (not including the broadband monthly charge!)

Several of my friends have had Vonage. All had problems and did not stay there long. Went back to conventional service.

Sounds like my internet connection through RoadRunner. I can say this is the WORST company to deal with EVER! They overcharged me 700.00 (they made a big mistake) Then they told me that the computers wont let them fix it, so I would have to pay that even thought they realize it is their fault, and then my account would just be credited!! I said I DON'T THINK SO! For one I couldn't afford to pay that much at once for the internet, and if they already made one huge huge mistake, who is to say they wouldn't lose that money if I did send it in!

Hi John, I use Blueface.ie for all Voip and they also handle calls to normal land line numbers, not only in IRL or UK but many countries around the world all for just €9.99 (basic freedom Package), they even do business rates or packages to mobiles etc.
Hope your enjoying the course so far. I've just got my camera back so now looking forward to getting on in the lessons.

I now have skype on both my mobile and an external phone connected to the computer, so if anyone wants to call me free on skype they can :D

I had a bad experience with my local phone provider (Bell Canada), so out went Bell and in went Videotron, who are now my ISP, cell and home phone providers thanks to VOIP.

The quality is identical, and now I save about $30/month and get better service.

I looked into Skype, but it seemed better supported in the USA than Canada.

I had a call on my skype phone tonight, and I was very impressed with the quality.
