I am sure there are a few "advanced" people here that know more about filters, so can you help me out here?

I'm starting a B&W class and the instructor has suggested getting some new filters. She did give filter numbers for Tiffen. Since $$$ are always a consideration, what is the difference between Sunpak and Tiffen filters and which is preferably. I realize Tiffen is a bigger name with probably better quality, but is there that much of a difference between the two?

I know I'm jumping ahead on B&W which is covered in Lesson 7, but I really like this instructor and she takes us on great field trips.

Debbie, I have a Sunpak CPL and just because I got a "steal" on the auction ($5), I got a Tiffen just to compare. Just out of curiosity. If the Tiffen would have been big bucks, I wouldn't have been so curious ;) It should be here any day now so, I'll let you know if I can discern any difference. Bear in mind, I'll be looking through old eyes... heheheh.

Debbie I have several different types of filters, and I don't really notice that much of a difference. I have several sunpacs, a tiffen and a Hoya. Maybe I am not trained enough to see a "big" difference, but they still do what they are supposed to do. Are you going to get the yellow filter for the B&W? I hope this helps.
