I have spent some time on Ebay trying to win a Used Nikon Micro Nikkor 105mm f/2.8 (no VR). Most have gone for around USD390. I just cannot manage to win the bid on Ebay.

I would be interested to know if anyone has had any dealings with the site:
DWI - Digital World International. I believe they are based in Hong Kong.
I am looking at buying the Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1

They are selling this for AUD344.00 with the basics and 1 year warranty (so they say).
This site should lead to the page with this camera:
http://www.dwidigitalcameras.com.au/store/product.asp?idProduct=390

Any help would be appreciated.

Kaye. What kind of feedback on EBay does this company have? The feedback speaks volumes How much is this lens if you bought it at your local camera shop?

Hi John, and thanks for the reply.
This company is not directly connected to Ebay. It is a company that sells cameras lenses on the internet.

The cheapest I can get this lens in Sydney is $500.00 (No UV filter, but 2 years warranty).
Thru DWI I can get a cheap UV filter for $10 (Marumi), 1 year warranty, and the total cost with shipping would be $384.00AUD.

I am really keen to get this so will probably make up my mind soon.

Try shopbot to see who,s got best prices, cant vouch for DWI as I haven't used them, I usually use Cameras Direct ($475 for the Tamron) on Gold Coast or local stores for significant purchases and eBay etc for misc items. Just got to watch freight too.

Hi Michael,
Thank you very much for your info here.
I have checked out your link above and came up with a cheaper price from TOPBUY.COM.AU (and presume this one is Australian), but they have a higher freight charge of $55! which ends up costing me more than DWI with a cheap UV filter.

Guess I will just have to make up my mind and take the punt and order.

Thanks for your help.

There are quite a few new ones on Ebay freight free for just under the DWI price, $369-$379, if you are happy to order from HK, all with 99.2-99.8% rating, however none that i have dealt with, so no personal recommendation.

There's also T dimension that is $344 + $20 freight on their direct site or on EBay for$384 freight free.

Happy hunting

Thanks again Michael.
I did see the one at T dimension, and will now go and check out the other links you have posted before making up my mind.
I have not bought much directly over the internet before apart from batteries, etc.
I will let you know what I decide.

Hi Kaye,
I have bought a couple of things from DWI and I can highly recommend them, shipping time is brilliant.
As you know they are based in Hong Kong but they also have a Sydney office (can't pick up from them though). Both the items I ordered a Sigma 105 f2.8 macro and and a Nikon 50mm f2.8 prime lens arrived within in about 3 days of ordering. These were 2 separate orders so they seem to be consistent based on those orders. Both orders were packed well and haven't had an issue with quality.

Happy buying.
I see you've got your D90 now you must be stoked!

Thanks very much Mick for your reply and your info on DWI. I presume you got some good deals on the lenses you bought also.
Yes, I am really stoked with my D90, and just could not wait to get a macro lens. Lots more to learn now.

I had checked out Michael's links above, and still had a "gut" feeling to go with DWI and also it was the best deal. I ordered this lens late last Sunday night, and as you know Mon. was a public holiday.
I RECEIVED MY LENS TODAY (WED) which was sooooo fast, and packed professionally as you said. All papers, receipts, etc. enlcosed. I am very impressed with DWI.

For anyone interested in new Tamron SP AF 90mm F/2.8 Di Macro 1:1, I paid AUD391.00. This also included shipping from Hong Kong and a cheap UV filter and a 2% charge on credit cards.
I think these resell on Ebay for a similar price!

Of course I had to try it out as soon as I received it. Here are a couple of my first shots whilst having fun trying out my new toy.

The first is a close up of one of my favourite shells, and the second just shows the shell in full view. These were indoor night shots taken with flash, but lowered flash exposure compensation.

have you tried Craigslist

Kaye

Hi Sandra, thanks for this info, but I had never heard of Craigslist. I did google it, and will certainly keep it in mind for next time, but now that I have my new lens, I do not plan on another purchase for some time.... I hope! :)

Thanks Eddie, I know I will be happy with it.
Initially I thought I couldn't use it in Autofocus due to the motor in the D90. The instructions did not say a lot.
I then googled it and found out to pull and push the focus to alter between manual and auto !

You can only wish, once you get started it is like a disease. Oh, that is just what I need... That would be nice... I can't pass that price up... I do have that empty spot in the camera bag....

Before you know it you are having to decide what to bring with you and what to leave home because you are tired of hauling around a 25 pound camera bag :).

That being said, I'm checking out DWI tonight, LOL.

Many thanks Sandra for the wishes. Loving macro as I do, I will probably spend far too much time out shooting.

Marianne

Thank you Marianne. Yes, I am missing my florals as I have tried not to revert back to my old camera, as so much to learn with the D90 and now the new lens.
After miserable cold wet weather for 2 weeks or so in Sydney, they say it will be fine tomorrow, and I'm not working! But, as you say, there are not many nice flowers around at present. This won't stop me from trying.

Thanks Scott. Perhaps you should not check out DWI, as I understand what you are saying. It is really hard to resist a good deal.
I have two small camera bags, and already don't have room for one lens :D

Hi John,

I have copied a post of mine from the last page which you may not have seen.
I would certainly recommend DWI. Good price, good shipping time. They have an office contact in Sydney, Brisbane, etc. (so they most likely also have a contact near you).
I emailed them twice with a couple of concerns and received a reply within 24hours.

Hope this helps.
