All I did was change speed, exposure and used a diffuser on the second one.-- EXIFs included. Notice the upper-left of the ball is blown out pretty bad in the first one without the diffuser. What's REALLY cool about these is: I'm not even in Macro or Super Macro mode! Just me havin' fun

I like that subject. Just think of that on a piece of that black reflective plexiglass. That would be awesome because of the nike sign.

I was thinking of black velvet as a background. But, you have to know how my brain works (or not) -- I usually just grab something on a whim and plop it into my fancy-shmancy light set up (consists of a clamp-on light clamped to a cheapo tripod I was going to throw away pointing down onto the subject that's lying on a curved-up posterboard. My "diffuser" is a 12"x8" sheet of 1/2" stryrofoam packing material). One of these days, I'm actually going to PLAN a shot using "real" lighting stuff. Hmmmmmmmm... unique concept for me  :D
PS - this weekend I'm going to attempt to make a fancy-shmancy scrim. Anyone seen a small umbrella laying round? heheheheh

I agree with Sue - the black reflective would really make the white golf ball POP.
By the way - what is a scrim???

I'm looking forward to the lighting lesson on the course. I will hopfully learn an awful lot from that one.

I think we ALL will, Andy. Right now, I'm just playing and experimenting with different things I've seen on the web or something that pops into my head (it doesn't happen often so I have to grab it while it's there!)

I do the same thing. Something just pops in my head and I just photograph it. I have been sitting here for days thinking of cool things to try, but I just have not had any time to do anything.

Wellllllllllll... I could find black reflective that was flexible enough for this. So, I used a green velvet blazer of my wife's. She'll never know hehehehe I did add a couple of things that I think improved the lighting. I put a small white piece of posterboard to the right-front of the ball, used bounce flash and diffused the direct light. See what you think:

Ya know... it was spooky. She knew! Don't ask me how but, she knew. I mean, I put it back exactly where it was in the closet. I don't think it was more than a few millimeters from where it originally hung. But, SHE KNEW!

Wow...Gary, you are doing awesome. I never understand the lighting...just doesn't compute in this ole brain of mine. But...I know I like the golf ball on the velvet jacket and the additional light at the front. I still haven't received my flash yet, but when I do, I'm going to bug the life out of you. :D
BTW...this looks like one of my golf balls. Have you been in my bag? I seem to have scuff marks on all my balls from the road that runs parallel to our golf course.
Great pic!

Ok...you are going to have to get together with Andy so he can explain to you that women do know everything before being told...:D:D:D:D
My hubby is wondering what I'm laughing about but I'm not telling....he thinks he wears the pants in this family and I just let him think that...:D:D:D:D
