"Generally, sources below 3200K are considered "warm;" while those above 4000K are considered "cool" sources." -taken from the section on light

I took two of the same photo at 7000K and 3200K respectively

However I still dont get why my 7000K image appears warmer than my 3200K image contrary to the above.

7000K image http://www.flickr.com/photos/21384213@N02/2198597606/

3200K image http://www.flickr.com/photos/21384213@N02/2197811149/

If anyone knows the answer to this please tell me.

Thanks all

John, take a look at your EXIF data on Flickr. Your color temperature indicates 5000K on both. It appears you have changed the white balance from Tungsten to Shade. You're shooting in Shutter Priority. Try this: Set your WB to Auto. Set your mode to Program and take the shot. Then, to Manual and play with the settings through the viewfinder until you see the shot you want. Drop to ISO 100 or less (you'll get WAAAAY less noise). That's what I've been doing lately. Just playing in Manual. Once you get real familiar with the settings, then, mess around with the different WB. Take a look at the Bright Idea and Fore shots in the Art threads. Once you get the shot you want, then edit the temp in PS or your favorite editor. Of course, I don't know what effect you were trying for but -- Hope you don't mind -- I played with it in Gimp and came up with this:

Just my pennys-worth... :)

Hi Gary

Thanks for your input man..appreciate it.

I forgot to lower the ISO.I was messing around earlier trying something different.

anyway I have no Idea why flickr is saying both at 5200K
they were changedin the camera to 7000K and 3200K respectively.

anyway ill experiment with your method outlined above.

Thanks again

John -

How do you change the color temperature? I have the same camera and never thought about changing the temperature. Just curious, under what situations would you do that?

On mine I go to my White Balance, and then there are several (many)options to choose from. One of them is color temperature! Hope this helps

Hi debbie

I cant change to a specific temperature.I just go to the WB
settings and in brackets under each setting is an approximate temperature. But we cant dial in a specific temperature setting that we need.

hope that answers your question

PS - debbie I notice you have the nifty fifty - are we talking about the Canon 50mm f1.8 II lens
If so can you tell me what you think of it or if you have any Images taken with it.
I was researching it late last night and I got it in the end for about 90 Euro.
Im still looking at some other peoples pictures to see whats possible with it and I would love to know your thoughts on this little lens?

Thanks

John -

I will have to look again at the WB settings, but yes that helps.

I do have the nifty-fifty. For the few times I've used it, it takes awesome pictures. The picture inside the camera is from the nifty-fifty and the only one I have access to right now. After work tonite - I'll post a few more for you.

I am still learning how to use it for low light situations, but again, it does take very nice pictures and you can't beat the price. I got mine of Ebay for $60 US.

John - yes I am. That's where I originally started posting photos. My "kid" will be 28 next month. That was my grandson's birthday party this last December. The day I posted those, Pbase was done and was looking for shooting tips for next time on Canon Rebel group I belong to. And yes, the reflection shot is mine. That happens to be one of my favorites taken on the N. Shore in MN last fall.

Well - for those that are interested, my photo got 12 out of 15 points. I guess not too bad for only my second meeting with this group.

Very good, Debbie! Which one did you show 'em? Forgive me if you told us... I'm old, senile and have a boo-boo finger that makes me forget stuff.
