Thanks MJ! We got a little wet, but got my gear inside just as it started to pour. Had to corral my kids as well!..;)

WOW Tim, lightening in the amazingly coloured stormy sky, and awaiting the downpour, and you managed a magnificent action shot like this. FANTASTIC!

Hi Tim, what a great shot, you won’t get many like that in a lifetime…excellent shooting Tim.
I have just got to ask you…is the lightening real…if so, that just makes this shot all the more incredible.

Thanks for the great comments guys!

Mark, the lightning is real! I did a bit of PP to contrast and bring out the lightning a little other than that it's real. The skater is Mike Rogers, a two-time cancer survivor and good friend of mine (notice the eye patch, he has only one eye). He owns and runs a non-profit cancer charity through skateboard functions called "Grind for Life".

We went to the park to do a shoot for photos for his new sponsors. We watched the radar and could see that a massive "Florida Thunderstorm" was moving in. Mike wanted to do it anyways "I'll skate 'til i t rains", he says.

I was digging the way the shots were coming out against the bruised sky, Shooting in burst mode at 8fps I actually have about 5 shots with lightning in them, but only this one with the perfect timing of the skater. The thunderstorm was a doozy and we ran for cover into the skatepark shop. Watching the radar on the local news they said there were over 400 lightning strikes in the area in a little over 1/2 hour!

Sorry for rambling on, but it was neat to get this shot and comes with a fun story.

Another shot, different angle.

Hi Tim, thanks for letting me know about the lightening…and that just make it all the more special…excellent shot time.
I had noticed the eye patch in the shot and am glad you give the story behind your friend Mike and his will to fight and beat cancer not once but twice…that’s pretty incredible.
Your shot of him with the lightening makes one hell of a shot of two extremes in one shot, extreme lightening, and an extreme man…with a will to live.
Thanks for that Tim

Love the other shot as well.
Mark
