This pewter wizard is 4 inches tall. I was just trying different lighting and distance. Can you tell the one that was shot without the flash bounce?

The one on the left without flash bounce??? It appears all the flash was on the wizard, while the one on the right is more diffused, not as bright and looks more natural.

Yupperzzzzz. Here's one more. I did 4 things differently.
Turned off the floodlight and removed all reflectors
Flash bounce BUT I held a hand mirror over the bounce so it reflected light DOWN
Put the camera in Macro. The other ones were just shot zoomed in.
Washed the dust off the wizard. Take a look at the little ruby in the previous shots. What a difference reflected light off of dust can make!

I don't think it's anywhere near as dramatic as the previous shots. But, it would be good for selling stuff on eBay :D
One of the lessons I learned from this is: If you're gonna shoot a macro, PUT THE CAMERA IN "MACRO". The other is: Cleaniness is next to Godliness and improves the picture a WHOLE lot.

A little further experimentation with a GE Reveal spotlight positioned directly above. Supposedly, these are closer to full-spectrum than ordinary incandescent. I set WB for Sun. Used a bounce flash on the second close-up and no bounce flash on the other two. No reflectors. No PP was done other than developing from the RAW file.

Very Nice Gary. The sparkle on the ruby in the last shot is brilliant.
