Called in at a local park on the way home this arvo, to see if the Swans and their Cygnets were out. Luckily they were and came over nice and close for a little while.

Michael,
At first glance, I thought nothing could beat this first shot. Then I saw the second....and the third....and the fourth. Your models behaved beautifully and you captured their innocence and beauty so well.
Simply gorgeous shots Michael.

Thanks Marianne and Kaye, i was quite lucky as they all came over to the edge of the pond obviously looking for food, and stayed a little while. Hopefully i can get another opportunity soon, before they grow up too much. Mum and Dad swan are still rather protective too, it was interesting to watch them chase away the ducks who came to close.

I like them all tll, really great DOG but fine detail too.
Question: which of the last two do you prefer? I find it really interesting the change of 'impact' you can get from different partial crops of a photo . I am guessing these two are sequential and because the top cygnet had moved lower in the frame you cropped it lower but wider.
I prefer the second one for composition ....

Hi Michael I love these shots, particularly #2 for the great detail, (love that drop of water on the beak) and reflections & 4 for DOF & composition but they are all very cute and lovely shots. .

Great series. Really does portray the inoscence of the young. Even in the animal kingdom. Great job!!!

Hi pipedesign, I like the last better, just mainly as they are both almost in sync with each other position wise and I do like the crop a little better with the back swan closer down as you mentioned, although 3 is very close behind. They are also both cropped due to the position of one of the parents at the left of the frame. As they wernt adding to the pic (partial swan body) I cropped as close as I could to give the little ones some room to look into, but anymore and they would intrude.

No 2 was a challenge (for us unskilled PS ) users as it was shot in the shade and had a blue cast, so there was a lot of tweaking in ACR to get the colour right.
