Unless I go back out and get more..:D I was a snapper (shame on me:() and shot two cards full. Most of them will hit the trash can but some I'm saving.
I know this is not technically correct but there is just something about it that I really like.

Mary - doesn't have to be technically correct all the time. I would love to be able to a photo like this.

I love it too Mary, Great Shot, the forgound interest is great and then your eyes go past that to see the peace of the other geese in the background, Beautiful.

I wish I could say I even knew how I got this shot but I did get quite a few like them. I'm guessing it was because of the vapor and the fact that the sun was just coming up and I was basically shooting into it. If you asked me to go back and recreate it, I have to say sorry...:(
Here's another one I liked and keeping. Thanks for all your kind words, Gary...you make me feel good!

Thanks, Andy...I was almost afraid to even post it. I figured I had just metered wrong and this was the results. Your comments transformed my photo from a mistake to a work of art...well, maybe I shouldn't go that far but it did make me feel like I had something. I'll be so glad when I know more about taking pictures. I've taught myself a lot over the past year but still a long way from being comfortable behind the camera and that is my goal...just to be completely comfortable and know what and how to do it.
I posted one more of these in a reply to Gary. I liked it too.
Thanks, again, this group has pushed me to get out and use my camera! It was -5 degrees when I took that and I didn't even notice the cold....:)

I can't believe you don't have any Canadian Geese around you. Well, I guess you probably don't now cause they are ALL on our Trenton lake...:D
I went back out this morning but its too cloudy and drab for a good picture but I noticed that a lot of them have a band on their leg. Guess someone is following the migration.
Thanks for your praise...made me feel good.

You just said the magic words, Mary. "...the sun was just coming up..." and "...shooting into it." In Bryan Peterson's book and in Scott Kelby's book, BOTH mention shooting landscapes only at sunrise and at sunset. Any other time (according to them) the light is too harsh. Your captures are perfect examples of that.

Mary -
First of all - I should probably do a better job of proofreading my posts. Too much Bailey's in the coffee this morning, I think. Anyway, I'm sure we have Canadian geese near here - but I never think about going out for pictures. On the way to/from work, I pass by a lake that is spring fed. In the open area, there are quite a few ducks and coot and I often think about stopping after work for pictures. The lakes haven't been real good for ice-making up until the last couple of days, so maybe with your inspiration, I'll have to make sure I bring my camera to work so I can stop afterwards for pictures. The ones you've posted are very inspirational.

I'm glad I'm inspiring you..I need inspiration all the time, especially when its this cold outside. I'm thinking of getting a hard case for my camera, so I can take it on my route with me. I won't use it everyday but at least if I see something I want to shoot, it will be with me. My package car is real rough riding and I don't want my camera to get jarred around.
Hope you get some shots, we need more photos to look at here!

Okay - I did take a few today, so I'll get them posted yet tonight.
When you're out on your route - I'd have for someone to "borrow" the camera during a delivery.

That was the reason for the hard case...I would be putting it in the back with all the packages and they are locked up at all times.
I can't wait to see what you shot today.
